We hired a car from Europcar in Italy and when we returned the car at Bari airport, we filled it with gas at the airport gas station. We subsequently received our credit card statement showing they had charged us for a full tank of gas plus a refuelling charge. We disputed it through our credit card provider but got nowhere (we had no receipt for the gas we bought). Our advice is take a photo of the fuel guage and the odometer when you collect the car and when you return it. And keep the receipt for the gas you buy when you are returning the car.

Same thing happened to us. Returned car fuel of fuel and they later charged me $100 for refilling charge which is fraud. A few days later they processed a second authorized invoice in the amount of $35.
Based on what I see on various sites, EuropCar does this regularly and customers are Not getting their money back.
Something needs to be done about this.
Europcar charged us a 48 EURO administrative fee in order to give our contact information to the italian police for a parking ticket that we paid the same day we got it. Europcar instead of protecting its customers screws them.
STAY AWAY FROM THEM
I was just billed £600 for nothing and no report / notification of damage given to us at all! Still awaiting response from customer service
