This company called me today demanding payment for a bill.  To say they are demanding and rude is a severe understatement.  They were asking for information on my personal finances (income, bills, if I had a mortgage, car payment, cable or dish) I told them that it was none of their business.  They claimed they needed it to create a monthly budget for me.  I told them I don't need a budget from them - I know how much I can afford to pay on this old bill.  I told them what I could pay and asked for an address to send payment - which they never would provide! Instead they insisted they needed my banking info!  I told them they must be out of their minds to think I was going to give them that kind of information! I could not even get them to really identify what company they we with!  When I refused to give them information they demanded payment in full immediately by credit card.  I told I would never give them a dime and would contact thier supposed "client" about my bill.  I think this place is a scam who gets debt information from public records and tries to bully people into giving them money!  As a single parent I have fell on hard times before and have had bills go to collections - but have NEVER encountered anything like this before!

What you are describing is abusive collection, and also trying to evade an attempt by you to verify the accuracy of the alleged debt.  Without requesting that they send verification obtained from the orginal creditor, you have no way to know whether they have added some additional amount you may not even owe.

Since you are concerned that this "collection agency" may actually be fraudulent, particularly since they refused to provide their address, what number were they calling from?
