We purchased this machine a couple of years ago, thinking it would be a good thing to have a newer, more energy efficient front-loading machine.  After about a year, we had to replace the motherboard for a cost of $500 as we kept getting error messages.  The machine works OK now (not great), but even though I clean if faithfully with Affresh (recommended by manufacturer) once a month, it still smells of mold all the time.  I have to leave the door open to keep it aired out to reduce the mold smell (I am allergic so this is really a great thing for me to have to deal with).  If you can, stick to the old-fashioned, dependable, reliable washing machines (if they are still to be found) and stay away from the new-fangled machines with all the bells and whistles.  I did not have a say in purchasing this machine - if I had, I'd have done the research and not bought it.  Shame on you Maytag, for selling such an inferior piece of equipment.

We bought the Maytag 3000 washer in Aug/09. In January/2012 had to replace the control unit after getting codes of "f 70". Now it is the end of April and the washer will come on but won't start. After unplugging and waiting several hours, I was able to do two loads of laundry. However, the next time I went to use the washer it would not start again and then put up the error message 'f 70" again. I am very disappointed with this machine, did not buy the extended warranty because it was a "Maytag"
appliance. Now we are looking at another service call this week and a bill of ????. Time for a new machine that is not made by Maytag!

We purchased a Whirlpool WTW 6800 Washer in 2010. Recently the machine was diagnosed by the local repair man, as needing the bearings completely replaced. This is a major repair costing $500.00 for parts and labor. The machine was purchased new at HH Gregg for $900.00. Calls to Whirlpool and HH Gregg resulted in absolutely no help. Basically, this machine, billed as top of the line, lasted a mere 2yrs. before wearing out. DO NOT BUY WHIRLPOOL washing machines as they DO NOT stand behind their products!!!!!!! This machine has also shredded towels and other clothes since it was purchased.

Worst washing machine ever is the Kenmore Calypso. It sounds like an airplane landing, absolutely ruins clothes and the ones it doesn't ruin come out dirtier and with more stains than before they were washed.

My question is how does something like this ever make it into production?  I have been a loyal Kenmore customer for years but this is pure junk.  I wouldn't take one for free because of the expense of replacing the clothes this thing destroys.

    Bye bye Sears and Kenmore,

Looks like other Maytag 3000 washer owners have had troubles.  Purchased our washer/dryer at local dealer in 2009.  Washer hasn't worked for awhile - just 3 short beeps when you press "Power".  I have done all the normail diagnostics - check outlet, unplug/replug, no drain obstruction.  Looks to be the control board & a very hefty repair bill - $500.00.  Expense lesson in not buying Maytag.  Use to be a good company but no longer.  Have been doing laundry at my daughter's house ever since.

I have had the worst washer ever; it is the Calypso From Kenmore made by Whirlpool.  i will never buy another Whirlpool product.  if they would have recalled all these washers, then maybe i would.  But since i bought it in 2004 i have had nothing but repairmen come to my house.  There have been at least 24 visits by the technicians even though all of them did not do a repair at the time. However, they had to order parts and had to just come back again. The bleach dispenser was replace because the bleach spray onto a few clothes; so I stopped using it.  Then the water pump was replaced several times.  Now for the past four months I have had what looks like grease marks on my clothes and gray spashing on to many clothes. so white new t-shirts come out looking grey and night clothes are not longer pretty because they are now grey. And new dish cloths are grey where the white is.  They have replaced the control board at least 3times and the washplate a few times, as well as the stainless steel tub and the part under the hub.  This has ruined hundreds of dollars of clothing. Never buy another Whirlpool product. Too bad someone didn't tell us about the recall.  This could have been avoided and all could be appeased with a different washer.

We bought the Maytag front load washer and dryer in August 2009 when we moved into our new home and paid well over $2200 for the pair. Thought the front load would be great for cleaning and energy efficiency. Well was I wrong with the cleaning part. We have had the washer replaced already due to motherboard issues. It seems this washer just doesn't clean. If we put a load of whites in with bleach the hand towels come out dirty still and stained and smelly. My clothes and whites always came clean with a top load.i even try the sanitary option but don't think that works either. For some reason it adds time to the cycle so instead of a1hour and 50 minute cycle it's almost 2 and half hours. And the clothes come out really smelly.  I can't believe how disappointing it is to own these maytag appliances. I think I could get my clothes cleaner if I washed them by hand. And we use the afresh but I just don't think the washer washes clothes properly.

Every single time we buy somthing from Maytag it breaks withing the first three months. We went back to our 22 year old washing machine and it cleans way better than the Maytag one. We learned our lesson not to buy anything Maytag.

MAYTAGS centennial has to be the worst product I have ever purchased. Do these companies think we are made of money and can purchase their products every two years
... I have had this product repaired 6 times and this is ridiculous!

I bought a Maytag 3000 front load  in March of 2009. While I have never had a mechanical failure, this machine grows mold like a wet basement.  I wish it would die so I can purchase a good old-fashioned top loader.
