I recently visited the east coast of the United States to visit reletives that I had not seen in years. We picked up the car in Baltimore and were to travel to North Carolins. We thought we were getting a deal from National Rental Car for $258 for the week. Not one time was it mentioned or referenced that there would be an added miloage charge until we dropped the car off. It is hard to budget for a vacation when this happens,I FOR ONE WILL NOT EVER RENT FROM THIS FLY BY NIGHT COMPANY.  I called and even though I am an Emerald Club Member,I got it through work, I was told that was the deal. If this is how you treat your top flight renters I shutter to think how the average person is trated. I will return to Avis.I will also inform my employeer and see if I can get them to change their corporate contracts. NATIONAL CAR RENTALS SUCKS

Alamo (partner of National Rental)quoted me a one-way price to rent a car from BWI for 3 days of $816.00. I refused and an Alamo agent referred me to National (partner of Alamo) for a cheaper price. The Alamo floor manager was observed entering the back office of the National Rental booth while I was being informed by the Alamo agent of the Alamo rate. When I got to the National Rental booth I observed the Alamo floor manager leaving the National Rental office. Then I asked a National Rental agent for a 3 day rental to Knoxville, TN. The agent said the estimate would be $344.97. I asked the agent 3 times if this was for 3 days, the agent replied yes, so I agreed to the rental because it was considerable cheaper than the Alamo $816 rate( I didn't notice that the rental agent made it a one day rental on the contract until I got to my destination, even though the agent verbally agreed that it would be for a 8/24/2009 return to Knoxville, TN). The National agent did not explain the terms of the rental or the return date but merely asked me to initial and sign the contract. I have rented cars for a number of years through Alamo with no problems whatsoever until now.I drove the rental car to TYS airport in Knoxville, TN and arrived there on 8/23/2009 around 10:30 pm ( which was less than 3 days). The rental agent (Mike Folks) said my total bill was $1,034.90. I was astonished (Mr. Folkes was also surprised and tried to console me)to find out that I was lied to by the National Rental agent in BWI. I called National Rental manager Jim Sihler the next day to try to get some relief from these charges. He went home shortly thereafter and I was able to contact him again on 8/25/2009. He would not give me relief from what I would characterize as a "Bait and Switch" scheme by Alamo and National Rental. Please help me resolve this. This is an outrageous way to treat honest law abiding citizens. I found out (via BBB internet site) that this company has an "F" rating by the BBB of Baltimore and all complaints are referred to the BBB of St Louis. I don't understand this at all.

I work for a Car Rent Agency and cannot for
The life of me understand why the public
      Are so
      Ridiculous with their complaints.
Your observations while you may think they did a
Bait and switch were unfounded and I would bet 1 million dollars that they were honestly trying to help you and it was a misunderstanding on your return date. The majority of agents/managers
In this business are more than fair and frankly tired of the customers not listening and signing legal contracts without reading a very easy to understand contract with very few small
Print items. Get a life and start taking responsibility for your own stupidity of signing a
Legal cantract and then trying to get out of it by putting down the rental companies!

National car rental gas the worst customer relations possible. They are not above lieing when i was denied my rental through priceline because of the non acceptance of debit cards. the agent refused to budge stating she only makes money if the car was driven away by the customer. But National makes double , once from the poor guy who makes a mistake paying them through P.L and then renting the same car at the same time to someone else.
