Unauthorized charges from a third party
Complaint
George C Williamson
Country: United States
My Chase Visa was charged multiple debits for $ 16.95. I called to cancel again as I had rejected being a member. They are sending some kind of form to get my money back. It's a scam as far as I am concerned. I am sending this to the California Attorney General's office and the local consumer watch television investigations, the BBB and any agency who will stop this.

When dealing with fraudulent charges, do NOT depend on the merchant voluntarily refunding the money they took without your permission.
First, this lets them reverse the charges without having it flagged as unauthorized, and also saves them the chargeback fees.
Second, companies making unauthorized charges will often place barriers in the way of returning your money, such as requiring that you send in some "refund form", or by "losing" your cancellation request, often to just string you along until the 60 day Reg. E or FCBA dispute period is past. They know that your bank can just reverse the charges on your dispute, but only if you dispute it within 60 days of the statement date showing the charge.
Third, if you take no action to shut down the account, there is nothing to stop them from charging you again several months later, when you might miss additional fraudulent charges.
