Beware of calls that say you own them and threaten to take you to court. If you did not do it, why worry? But it does upset you a little.

They are just scammers.  There once was an EME Marketing connected to a chain of payday lenders.  Now this is just one of many names used to extort money from U.S. consumers by fraudulent "payday loan debt collector" scammers.

There are increasing levels of complaints of such phony "debt collection" extortion rackets, threatening to sue, arrest you, or whatever they make up to get your money.

Their threats are toothless, and they may have access to old payday loan data or credit report information that they use to con people.  Do NOT believe anything they say.

They are just criminals, in many cases calling from overseas.

I got a call from this Officer Patrick Wilson some weeks ago saying that I owe money from a Payday loan store on line, yes I took a loan from the company he mention, and he tols me that I two options: 1. Pay the money to his company, or 2. Go to court and have my wages taken, I need my job and check, so I paid the amount that he says was owed, so nhow I'm geeting additonal callls at work and on my cell, telling me that now I'm getting sued by the same people that I aready paid the money to.  How can I get these to stop calling me from 2 differnet numbers, asking for this money?

I received the identical same message today from an Officer Robert Richman at the following phone # (321)323-9928 stating I owed for some payday loan which I have never received from them.  He also stated could I pay with a credit card and he was going to fax some papers to me to sign.  He stated if I didn't comply he will be forwarding my paperwork to the courts in Central Florida and I live here in Texas. This is really a SCAM for sure with numerous people describing this very same experience with the EME MARKETING, LLC stating they are officers.

About half of the "collection agency" complaints on this site are now some variant of this scam.

There are no real law enforcement "officers" going around threatening to take you to court if you don't pay them.  It is a scam.

These scammers may be pulling credit reports which would allow them to see that you once had a payday loan.  They can then pretend to be collecting on that loan.

If you believe you might actually owe a loan, contact the lender directly.  You cannot rely on anything said by unknown callers, even if they know your SSN, account information, or lender, since that can all be found out by scammers through credit reports.

Any legitimate debt collector will send you a letter after calling, identifying the alleged debt, and notifying you of your right to dispute it and request verification.  They are required by FDCPA to send this letter within 5 day of their first contact.  Failure to send it is a violation of federal law, for which you can sue them.

If you receive a threatening call from an unknown caller, attempting to use threats to get money rather than collect an alleged debt in compliance with law, it means you are dealing with a scam.

These are a bunch of con artists running a criminal extortion racket.

They got money from you once by using threats, so they will keep threatening to get some more.

How did you pay them?  If it was by credit or debit card, or EFT from your checking account, dispute the charges as fraudulent through your bank.  Your bank can reverse fraudulent charges disputed within 60 days of the statement date of the statement showing the disputed charge.
