Experian is the worst organization in the US in my opinion. I had a proven fraud on my credit report and then (IN WRITING) after several requests by me they flat out told me they were not going to remove it.
Good luck getting a dime out of them without an attorney.

same thing happened to me, on my BofA account.

in the end, the fraud dept at BofA did a 3way call with experian and had my account closed. They said something like "i need the last four of your social" and I replied "i refuse to give you any of my information, and will exercise my rights to the fullest extent of the law. get this account close immediately" ... the lady put me on hold for two minutes and I got my two $19.95 credited back to my account.

i'm not a fan of BofA's behavior in a national sense, but i do think their customer service is pretty good. hooray for cognitive dissonance!

Experian is the US-based arm of global credit reporting agency Experian Plc. This business provides credit reporting and lead generation services utilizing its database of more than 215 million US consumers and some 15 million US businesses. The US company has close to 6,000 employees, while the global parent company has close to 15,000 employees worldwide and Annual Revenue of close to $4 billion USD ... my point is that Experian has been around for over 30 years and has a pretty successful business model ... the company does not need to scam people out of $20, or even $100, it's not worth the risk to their reputation, nor does this very profitable company need to steal to make money.

The culprit here are the data miners and identity thieves who are utilizing the open access provided by the weak security with the company's online credit report monitoring services. Armed with limited information including your name and your card information, anybody can get in to your credit file and that is what the thieves are looking for. It's all about accessing your info. The beauty of the information swipe is that we are paying for it!

I just noticed 4 months of $19.95 charges from the same EXPERIAN *CREDITREPO 877-2977790 CA as the rest of you. I certainly will not be calling the number and providing them with any additional information. Who knows, maybe it's not really Experian that you are calling ... and that could be Part 2 of the scam? Maybe that's where they ask for your social security # and complete the theft of the rest of your information.

I have called my bank, changed my card #, and will hope and pray that the damage is not already done. For their involvement in this mess, at the very least I would hope that Experian tries a little harder to protect the private information in their database a bit more than by allowing random access to anybody who asks.

I can follow up on this -- it's not Experian.

I just found 10 months of charges on my credit card and called.  They were very helpful and suggested that I call my bank and call them back 3-way with my bank before giving them my credit card number to find the account.  When they found it, they were able to find the person who had opened an account with my credit card.  They immediately refunded me the 10 months of charges, and then suggested that I close the credit card.

The Experian employee was very helpful and explained that this is a "newish" fraud technique where someone gets a credit card number, pulls the credit report using the number, and then steals your identity from the credit report.

I agree that Experian should CERTAINLY add some security measures, but I don't think they are trying to scam you from your $20.

Immediately contact your bank to dispute fraudulent charges, and close your account or block your card number due to fraud, to prevent additional fraud.  Follow up with a written dispute or fraud affidavit sent to your bank's dispute address from your statement, to document your timely dispute.

Your bank can reverse disputed charges if you dispute within 60 days of the statement date of the statement showing the disputed charge, under FRB Reg. E or FCBA.

Experian *CreditReport 877-2977790 US This number showed up on my bank card authorizations. I called the number and they wanted my debit card number to verify- couldn't look by my name, birth date, etc.  So I called the bank telling them there were 2 $1.00 charges on my account and I had not signed of for any credit report or anything over the interent. The cank cancelled the card and reissued another. THen one month later a charge for $19.95 showes up on my account, The customer service representative at Experian said that a Sheila L. signed up for Experian and our account number was similar so it withdrew $19.95 from my account. I immediately called my bank to stop the transaction and close the card also CLOSE YOUR PIN NUMBER.  I have no idea where they are getting my information but this is FRAUD. I also contact FTC and tomorrow will be BBB and Attorney General for Washington. Experian better change their practices because I am getting a lawyer.

      Any progress on this?
I just had to cancel 3 cards due to various Experian charges
When I asked what info was needed to request a Credit Report, they said the card number only, no exp date, no DOB, no security PIN.
      I don't buy it
      Thanks

Got a $19.95 charge from Experian CreditReport 877-297-7790 that I never authorized.  I've never had any unauthorized charges on this account, I guess they don't require the card verification Pin.

Asked if I got my report on creditreport.com, which I did not.  Asked if I knew two names that I didn't and they said my account will be refunded.  I disputed the charge with my Credit card company just in case, so I don't have to look for their refund.

Are you kidding me?! My account is overdrawn because of these people! How did they get my information?  And why isn't there an investigation of some kind? Apparently, there are a lot of people who are dealing with these culprits and there aren't any feds getting involved???

I just called my bank in regards to almost $150.00 of fraudulent charges that will be refunded to me. I then authorized the bank to proceed against Experian criminally because I am tired of this. This happened to me years ago.

    Blah blah blah
I just had the 19.95 charge refunded to me by Wells Fargo.  Said it will take two days.

We're heading out of state in 5 days and we also just applied for a mortgage, so this makes me nervous.

Did anyone else here happen to apply for a mortgage recently?  Maybe there is a pattern.

Same thing happened to me with a card I rarely used. What kind of crap is this!? Oprah's network would get higher ratings if she did and expose on this.

I had two separate charges from Experian, six times!! One was "free credit  report" $14.95 and one was "credit report" $19.95.  Thank goodness Bank of America has fraud protection, but this is ridiculous! They charged us over $100!! Some in the same day!  I asked if they were Experian and the representative said they are contractors for Experian! What a scam!!!!!!

    ExperianFraud
I'm on hold with Experian for the 2nd time in the last few months because my card was charged 19.95.  The first time they tried to say I had an account, which I didn't, the second time, they said the account was in the name of a Dylan P.  The account is now closed and I'm getting a full refund.

Personally I think this is a scam by Experian to get people to buy credit monitoring coverage.
