Against better judgement, I got an oilchange at Walmart and have been getting the text on a weekly basis ever since.  I reply "STOP" and it just comes from a different number the next week.  It is a scam, do not click the link, it is spyware.  Congratulations Walmart on finding yet another way to prey on your customers to gather data about their consumer habits.  Hoping one day you will be prosecuted!

I received a message saying I received a 1000.00 gift card from Wal-Mart. I shop there and this is how they return customer care by sending scams. Shame on Wal-Mart.

      Stop bad business policies Wal-Mart.

These spam messages are NOT coming from Wal-Mart!  They are coming from spammers such as the ones that send out fake/scam texts and e-mails from banks stating your account has been compromised.  Do you think those texts and e-mails come from the bank???  NO, they don't.

Hakzaw, I totally hear you. . .I pay for each text in or out, so it is annoying that I get them.  By the way, I do not give my cell phone out to hardly any business, so as some of you state it has to do with giving your number to Wal-Mart. . .it has nothing to do with that. It is a computer that randomly inputs millions of numbers and more than likely almost every cell phone number will eventually get one and tons of people will fall for the scam.

If a strange text pops up on your cellphone congratulating you on winning a $1,000 Walmart gift card, don't believe it.

      It's a con.

The text message reads: "You've been selected for a free $1000 Walmart Giftcard! Enter the code 'FREE' at www.walmart.com.wlat.biz to get it now. Only 118 left! Text OUT to stop."

The link takes people to a page that requires them to enter personal information.

A Walmart spokeswoman said the company is aware of the scam and wants to warn its customers to not give out personal information. "We want the customers to know these bogus messages are in no way sponsored by or affiliated with Walmart," said Dianna Gee, a company spokeswoman.

Walmart is telling people that if they receive this text, they should forward it to 7726, which spells SPAM, Gee said.

The phone's wireless carrier will then ask for the number the spam text was sent from.

Gee said the process allows carriers to block senders.

If anyone has been duped by the con, gee said, they should contact the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov or 877-FTC-HELP.

A similar text has been sent about a Best Buy gift card. The message reads: "Your Entry Last Month Has WON!! Goto http://bestbuywin1k.com/ and Enter Your Winning Code: 2222 To Claim Your Free $1000 BestBuy."

Best Buy's website advises customers not to respond and to contact the company at abuse@bestbuy.com.
