I ended my business lease at one location and started a new business in a larger location.  I changed services after many years from Verizon to Comcast, leaving no details of proper change undone.  Verizon was notified in writing that my lease and use of all lines would end on Nov. 30, 2009. Comcast did the changes with them and my new service with Comcast began at the new business on Dec. 1, 2009.  In February I received a bill from Verizon for calls from the old location, a line left open, placed to Lebanon.  I immediately contacted them to remind them the line should have been closed at that the calls were not mine.  The following month I received a bill for 4347.81.  The same line still left open now had a computer plugged in logging minutes. I had to submit lease termination papers and pay an early termination fee (??after many years??) to a laywer working for Verizon to solidify my Nov. 30, 2009, exit.  Subject closed.  Now I am being harassed over a year later by RPM.  Verizon should be held responsible for people collecting on their behalf.  Communications with Verizon were deplorable. I am contacting the Today Show next.

In addition, contact your state Attorney General.

Verizon has a record of poorly handling service terminations, as well as sloppy handling of billing "errors".

I too have not been able to close an account. The line was closed in Jan. I continue to receive bills. I have written in excess of 6 letters and gone through their customer service being assured that it was taken care of...I still receive a monthly bill that accumulates with threats to be sent to a collection service. I changed services because of billing and clerical errors and it just continues. I wonder if there are more people with the same type of problem. Let's hear from you.
