Yes it's been 5 years and on top of the original purchase we have spent over $400 in repairs and last night 7/5/2011 it bit the dust. Unreal!
You think and are told that you are buying the very best and why you spend the money but from our experience is nothing but a piece of garbage. We will be going out today to buy a new washer but it wont be Maytag or Whirlpool. They say they don't have these problems today...Yea Right!! you really belive that? They just want to sale, sale, sale...Maytag or Whirlpool could care less becasue I've called and they will not support their products.

Good luck...You have been warned!

I purchased my Neptune in Dec 99, started using it July 2000. I did have minor oders and sometimes some rubber burning smell, for ten years I never had a real complaint about them. On the 10th year the door wax motor failed and burnt the resistor on the curcit board, I replaced both myself for about 200.00. The Maytag dealer said I was one of a few people who had little or no problem with the Neptune washer and said i was very fortunate. I also cleaned all the sludge out of the drainage system that collected over ten years of use. Two weeks ago, about a year after I serviced it the washer failed again and I replaced them with new machines. I got 11 years out of them, 3-4 people in our house and well water, always used hi effecient detergent. I gave the old neptune washer and dryer to my brother and he's going to fix and use them. The new front loader washer and dryer cost less than what I paid for the Neptune washer, with alot of money left over.
