They called our son's cell number stated that they were going to serve someone that he did not even know, they wanted him to give them our family members' names to see if it was the person they were looking for. I called them back at 877-678-0312 and the lady that answered the phone was very rude because I asked her to prove to me who she was looking for then she hung up on me.

    It's a scam.

Don't lose any sleep over it.

Will she pay you for doing her job?
A bogus debt collector called your son, who doesn't know the person they are calling for, and then demands that she be told the names of everyone in your family.  Of all the arrogance...they expect that you are some sort of free skip-tracing service...

We've received debt collection calls for people we didn't know.  After the first experience, where, after being told that we didn't know the person they were looking for, they continued to call for nearly a year, I quit answering those calls.  CID is my best friend and if I don't like the looks of it, I don't bother answering.  The subsequent debt collection calls for someone that none of us knew were allowed to go to the answering machine where we would increasingly demanding and, (humorously so) distressed messages.  On slow afternoons, it was like answering machine theater.  The calls for each person that we don't know continue for about a year each - roughly the same length of time whether we answer and tell them that we don't know them or not - before they go elsewhere.

Shady debt collectors make harassing calls for skip-tracing are one problem.  This is different.

All "ACS" "debt collectors" are outright scammers and swindlers.
    All their "debts" are fake.

If they are asking for any names or other information, pretending they are "skip-tracing debt collectors", then they will try to use it to redirect their extortion activities toward any names you provide.

    Tell them to "F*** Off".

Or maybe you could give them the names of law enforcement agents, or any government officials you would like to make aware of this problem.
