Washer cost a lot repairs cost more

I bought my first Maytag with the premise of the Maytag repair man commercial, thinking if I had a GE washer last me 20 years, I should never have to buy a washer again; Was that ever false advertising. I bought my Maytag  10-21-12 and was delivered 10-25-12 and now the thing doesn't know what to do half the time. The lights flash, wont go into spin. leaves clothes wet , and the door lock clicks on and clicks off then flashes then goes off. I hit the pause  and then start and behold, it starts where it left off at. It takes me a good 2 hours to do a load of laundry.
I called Maytag and of course its out of warranty , but they would be so glad to send out a repair man and charge me $309.00 and give me a 1 year warranty. I paid 498.00 for the washer so rocket science tells me to junk it and by another GE with out an electric brain. I will never buy Maytag again and will tell all my friends not to  either.
