Lost luggage on a flight Jan 5, 2008 from Barbados with stop in Montego Bay final destination Philadelphia. Filed lost luggage form in Philadelphia unpon clearing customs. No communication from airline for weeks. Filed lost property claim Jan 25 and mailed to Air Jamaica, PHiladlephia International Airport. Letter from Air Jamaica Jan 31 said claim was sent to Kingston. No communication from Air Jamaica since. March 2, I called Air Jamaica, PHL, they said it could take up to 4 months for a settlement. April 2 sent an email to Air Jamaica through their "contact us" Refund section of web page. Nothing. A few days later, sent another email demanding some communication from someone! The following was their "canned" response dated Apr 8:
We are in receipt of your e-mail and do regret that you had cause for dissatisfaction with our services.
Your correspondence has been forwarded to our Customer Relations Department and they will respond to you directly. All correspondence requiring a response is addressed within 60 days to enable us to accurately and completely research your issue.
I have heard nothing since. I responsed asking 60 days from when? Date of incident, date of claim -when? No response from Air Jamaica. The property claim totaled over $1500 in lost personal items in the luggage. The tickets I purchased for the trip had to be paid for immediately. This lost luggage claim is now over 4 months old. Is it fair that I should have to wait to be paid when they do not? How many other bags has Air Jamaica lost since Jan 5 (or before!) that it takes this long to settle. I am entitled to some kind of communciation from Air Jamaica at the very LEAST! And relief for lost the bag & its contents!
I will NEVER fly Air Jamaica again!

I lost my luggage on a flight Dec 5, 2009 from New York to Kingston. I went to an airj rep to inform them my bag was missing. My name was not on the list of passengers' names whose bags were delayed. I was told to call a number and that the bag would come the next day on the new york flight. Went to baggage claims center- no bag. Called back two days after- went to the center still no bag. By this time i was exhausted by traveling back and forth for 5 days to check to see if the missing bag was found.
I knew from day one that my bag would stay lost. They gave me a claims form to submit, asking to include receipts of my purchases and contents in the bag. I did so.
Not to my surprsie no one during the time that the bag was missing and when i dropped of the claims form - contacted or apologize for the inconvinience they caused me. I found out that my bag was the only bag that wnet missing from the flight, It was not an excess piece, nor was it overweight, but it went up in the air literally and went missing into thin air. I dropped of the claim on the 11th Dec. When i called the following day, a rep told me she was seeing that it had been eneterd in their sytem and it would take 90 working days. 90 days!!!this girl must be crazy... Then something hit me, i decided to call on the 22nd of Dec just to double check if the lazy workers were telling the truth. I spoke to another rep - im assuming she was a supevisor, she asked me for a reference number, i said what reference number. so the claim was not filed on the 11th but rather the 22nd and her excuse was we have many claims to process, mine may have been put down accidentally. By this time i was pissed. Further more i was told it was not 90 working days but 30 days to process the claim and to look for a missing bag that i knew they would never find.
on Feb 11th i received a letter from the airline telling me they are gonna pay me back for the weight of the bag and not its contents...thanks so much for letting me know not to NEVER EVER FLY WITH YOUR AIRLINE IN THE FUTURE. AND I DID NOT ACCEPT THEIR SETTLEMENT, THAT THEY OFFERED - I PLAN TO SUE THEM!!
Trvelers beware of this airline- They may claim they are number 1 in safety, but all they want from you, is your money!!!they do not care about the safety of your belongings. It means nothing to them.
The beloved airline that Jamaican give so much of their money, is getting out of control. My advise to travelers is to avoid taking air Jamaica at all cost. Save yourself the stress . To make millions of dollars off the customers they have so little respect for. Air JAM implemented a one (1) luggage weighing 50 pounds PER customer policy. The second piece of luggage is suppose to cost $25 if it’s 50 pounds or less. That is almost never correct due to the fact that AIR JAM scales seems to be calibrated to be off my 3 to 5 pound most days.
Allowing them to charge unsuspecting passenger $50 or to $120 for the second piece of luggage. This paid luggage 9 out of 10 times will not make it on the air craft that you will be traveling on. AIR JAM will not advised you of this until you have arrive at your final destination and not find your luggage on the carousel.
I noticed over 500 bags pack by my estimation in a warehouse in JFK waiting to be trucked from NYC one of the most popular and more expensive hubs to Miami Florida a truck ride that takes 48 hrs to over 100 hours before being loaded onto a cargo plane in Miami. With all the money AIR JAM is collecting for the luggage the lease they could do is pay the cost to have the luggage flown via cargo out of NYC instead of the truck route. PLEASE BE ADVISED it will take 5 to 7 days to receive your luggage. Avoid AIR JAM.
Some official need to shut this airline down completely. They are too disgusting. Air Jamaica overbooks flights and is always late. How can someone who has a flight a 9:10 a.m. and arrived at 6:30 a.m. not be on the flight? I told my auntie to sue that airline on every legal grounds that is possible. I felt so bad for her. I know, that airline will not see a dollar from me.
I called the 800 number and was on "HOLD" for 40 minutes without anyone picking up the phone. I clearly decided then that if I ever made it back to the US, Air Jamaica would be my last mode of air travel. I can relate to all of the valid complaints made by my fellow travelers.
The now defunct Air Jamaica is presumably being bought out by Caribbean Airlines, so we can only hope that they have a better Customer Relationship Management and is not just another entity intent preying on the allegiance of its customers.
finally informed us.Then the bus ride to a 2 star hotel for the night. We found out a 2 star hotel means they don't clean the rooms and there is no eatable food in this all inclusive hotel.Home once again, put a complaint in and as you allready know the same responce,no responce. DISGRUNTLED [We will never fly air jamaca agine!!!!
Thank you
