Fraudulant debits came out of my account from "Sony Finance"

I don't have any type of relationship with "Sony Finance" and don't have any upcoming pending debits from my bank card this week, so I was completely shocked to see these charges come out of my bank account and when I called my bank they told me that the charges came through on my debit visa card and that the customer service rep I spoke with said she had a few other calls from other customers with phony charges from "Sony Finance". She asked me where did I use my card in the last few weeks and I told her I used my card online and in store at Express, Victoria's Secret, The Limited, Publix, and a few other places. She then said my card number must've been compromised somehow and I closed my card. I will have to go to a bank branch and get a new card issued to me. This is very inconvenient and scam artists need to earn a living and earn their income "legally" just like the rest of us.
Comments
Use only credit cards for online or retail purchases, since they have stronger fraud protections under federal law.
Use checks only for payments to known and trusted businesses, such as banks, utilities, rent or mortgage, etc.
Use only ATM cards requiring a PIN for cash at your own bank's ATM machines.
Do NOT have debit cards, since they draw directly on your checking account, and fraudulent charges can mess up payments to legitimate creditors. Also, their fraud protections are weaker.
Christmas is the season for fraud.
Protect yourself.
