Reserved and paid online for a car rental for my wife.  At the Miami airport they wouldn't honor it.   She declined insurance, but they put it on the bill.   Claimed signing credit card authorization verified it.   She was visiting a dying brother so I'm sure they put one over on her.

Instead of $120 for a 3 day rental it was $ 273,   Plus they still billed me $83 for the online rental fee.   They said they will issue a refund minus a penalty.

Customer service was mostly useless.

Promptly contact the Florida Attorney General's office and file a formal complaint.  Be prepared to have copies of all documentation ready to send to them.  Pam Bondi, the AG in Florida, is a fierce conservative and strikes me as someone who is not going to put up with this sort of crap.  Also, it wouldn't hurt to inform the Attorney General in your state of residence since Hertz is everywhere, plus let all business organizations know of this in both Florida and your home state - such as the BBB and similar groups.  Also, post on every complaint website you can find, as you've done here.  Many thanks and good luck to you!
