Numerous calls to my home.  Caller never leaves a message when I don't answer, and when I do answer, no one is one the other end.

Reported to be some magazine subscription telemarketer deceptively claiming they are calling to "renew your subscription".

Several consumeers report that their subscriptions weren't in need of renewing, which pegs this as probably an "overpriced magasine subscription" scam trying to con their way in front of the publisher.

There are boxes available that you can insert between your incoming phone line and your phones that require the caller to punch in a code to actually ring through.  Since autodialers cannot understand your message and punch in the code, they will fail to get through.  If you are experiencing high levels of autodialed harassing calls, you might either change your phone number, or try one of these boxes to end the harassment.

There are several companies making such boxes.

I do not have any connection to this company, but I have found one of their products effective.

This is a magazine subscription renewal calling service located in Denver.  A number of magazines (Smithsonian, Guideposts, Prevention, National Geographic, Dan's Comp, France, and many more) hire these guys to call their customers to renew subscriptions that might have lapsed or will soon lapse.

They are quite good at what they do, so they will rudely hang up if they don't get the target subscriber right away, and they don't leave messages if they're directed to voice mail, unless they can think of a creative alternative.  Usually, the first time they call only to find out whether any warm body is around to answer the phone, and then they hang up as soon as you answer, then call a few minutes later and actually attempt to harass you in person.

They will ignore the Do Not Call Registry if you have subscribed to a magazine and have given the subscriber your phone number.  That's because they are legally permitted to call you and make solicitations, since you gave them explicit permission to do so.

So, how can you combat this?  First, don't give your phone number(s) to future magazine subscriptions.  Second, ignore the call if you have caller ID and see this number appear.  Other than that, you're kinda stuck.

My personal suspicion is that these folks are hired to call you by some companies that have nothing to do with magazine subscriptions, but I haven't verified that; it's only a guess on my part.

I also found out that if you own a business, these people have the right to ignore the Do Not Call Registry and call your number, even if the particular number is not registered with your business.

They call 2 or 3 times a day. I just press the talkbutton and put the phone on the table and walk away. Eventually, I hear the phone off the hook tone and just hang it back up. Sooner or later they may get the message. . .

I got 6 calls in 1 day from this number: 303-328-5792.  I think it was a big mistake that I registered my cell phone from the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.  These [***] got my number from the registry.  How can I make them stop.  It's a nuisance.

So glad I've been ignoring this number when it rings as "Private Caller" on my caller ID.  Thanks for all your very useful posts.

    Fun way to fix this....
Got a way for all of you to get them off your back...in a hurry.  Go out and buy one of those air horns folks use at athletic fields (you know the kind, compressed air in a can with the horn on the end) and blast them when they call!  That's called "getting their ears pierced!"  How's that for an earful?  Guarantee they'll stop harranging you...if they can hear after that!

They call me several times a day and laugh.  Never know what they want.  From now on I will just let the phone ring.  Someone in earlier notes said it was a phishing scheme to get your credit card number.  Another said the calls are coming from the Colorado Corrections Facility.

True Losers...don't fall for the scam.

g for a person who I don't know.  I told them they had the wrong number. I asked where they were calling from and was told a magazine subscription company.  I told them I was registered on the do not call list and not to call me.

One hour later they called back.  They asked for the same person they asked for earlier, I told them they had the wrong number and to stop calling.  She told me, "No."  That they had the number registered with them under another name and would continue to call.

I filed a complaint on each call with the DoNotCall registry, a lot of good that will do.

I did call the number back, it was busy, one time it did ring, but it was never answered.

These calls are ridiculous - now I'm getting them weekly.  The same guy whom I told I'm not interested and that I know it's a scam responded, "F*** it" multiple times.  I just got another call today from him and I said that we already talked, I'm on the do not call registry, and I'm not interested.  His response? "F*** you... you're going to get a bill for a bunch of magazine subscriptions."  Contacted my cell phone company for the consent to release my records to my local police.  Waiting for another call since I'm now prepped to record my calls.
