Fire hazard and no customer service

I got this popcorn maker as a gift. The very first time I used it I had smoke  coming out of it. My husband exchanged it for a new one at Walmart.

The second popcorn maker didn't last long either. It caught on fire in a month. I wrote to Cuisinart about this issue but received no response. I tried to call them, but I was disconnected every time after spending a half an hour on hold. I don't advice anyone to buy this product.
