Death reason for flying

I purchased Trip Mate thru Cheap Tickets r/t my Mother dying in another state.  I bought insurance because the unknown of death occurring.  When notified I would need to change date of flight back was informed my Mother would have to die by date of return or it wasn't covered(she passes 12 hours later). I would never waste my money on trip insurance again!
