  Many debt collectors, particularly those collecting on very old alleged debts, may fraudulently attempt to con consumers into paying unowed or unpursuable debts.  This can result in damages even when you owe them nothing, but they count on most consumers not knowing what to do about it.
  
  PRA is one of those debt collectors with many complaints of harassment and "erroneous" collection attempts on unowed debt.
  
  Your best strategy when dealing with bogus debts from a debt collector is to contact a consumer attorney to determine whether you can sue for violations of FDCPA or FCRA.
