Country: United States
After answering an unsolicited call from AHDV (224-649-5695), the caller solicited a donation and when I explained that I was a senior and was struggling and couldn't donate, the caller launched into a diatribe saying, "you live in ________ and you say you can't afford a donation, well have a good day in ________!"  He then slammed down the phone.  I have supported our disabled veterans in the past; but, I will never give to the above organization.

How do you know that ? Do you own a call center ? Do you know someone who does ? Do you even know if that is true or not ? Did you know most professional fundraising firms give more to the organizations they call for than organizations like GOODWILL , WOUNDED WARRIORS , etc. ? Think before you speak as well as get your facts straight before you blast people for having a job !!!

Tommy - you're a fool.  To be clear, any company that makes "blind" ROBO calls is a scam - period.

You're a complete idiot. Are you trying to make us believe that they donate more than 6%, if even that.

I have busted a few of these places. The get about 10 or more to make calls, and buzz through the call lists over and over. The charities who "contract with them often get less than 10 cents on the dollar. They also make up charities and get 100% of the money. They often twist the name of a real charity to deceive people. The best thing to do is find your charities of choice and donate directly to them, this is safer and more efficient.

According to this official report, only 28% of the revenue went to the program beneficiaries in the fiscal year ending 30Sept2016.  https://www.sos.wa.gov/charities/search-app.aspx#/detail-charity/22609  The Attorneys General of all 50 states agree that any so-called charity that gives less than 40% of its revenue to the stated beneficiaries should be charged with fraud.

I'd like to find a place where I can find out if all the requests I receive for donations to Veterans organizations are  legit!

I DO send donations to most of them, but I continually receive more and more requests.  Can someone provide this information?  It would be truly appreciated.

There is lots of information available by just doing an Internet search like this one.  You will usually find links to dig more deeply.

The best reference is Charity Navigator (charity navigator.org).  They are 100% reliable -- in contrast to many of these cold calls.

    You might try here..
    www.charitynavigator.org

Or check with your state Attorney General to see if they have to register to solicit in your state.
They might have to file something.

yes we will continue to support our troops,
however, when you call from a cell phone number, it doesn't appear to be a clean glass. we will give true the local acceptance centers.

I understand that a donation to an organization with  501 (c) (4) designation is not tax deductible. I understand that it costs a lot to advocate for a cause.  My main concern, or rather question, about AHDV is what they are able to accomplish or if they are really legit. Does anyone know?

I'm a vet and support our troops and vets in need. My first thought was to get my check book. Then I thought I'd check for complaints or the legitimacy of the organization.  After my research, I have decided to keep my check book closed for now...thanks for everybody that took the time to leave a post.

You people gripe and complain about people having job's . It's funny how all of you want your cake and to eat it as well . Nothing is free NOTHING every single organization you give to all have overhead cost . The national avg for non-profits are only 10% . If you have a job and you are good at it then do it . I will support still I know they don't get nearly enough of what is raised but 1 dollar is better than 0 dollars ...

Hey Tommy Jones...  You need to educate yourself.  All I can gather based on your posts is that you must be one of the people working for or chairing one of the charities that takes in a dollar and only gives 10 cents to the charity.  You need to bone up on how the money is used before you decide on who to give to so the supposed benefactor gets the most from the donation.

I got a call but was not able to donate and I'm a vet myself and the caller said no problem and thanked me for my service.
