Country: United States
I received a letter today from ACA Recovery stating that I owe $574.00 for advertising with GOYELLOWPAGESONLINE.COM. I have no ideal who these people are and why they are charging me $574.00. I never received a invoice or anything. This is very sad day in a America, we have fight for good credit you have this company scaming my company and others. I try to call the phone number 1-866-967-8205 the recorder says that the office is currently closed at 9:30am in the morning? Now I have to take my time and write a letter to the collection agency to clear my name.

They are reported to call up small businesses, claiming they are "verifying" their information. Reports claim phone recordings are then doctored or edited to misrepresent that a company has "agreed" to pay for some "online listing". Basically fraudulent telemarketing pretty typical of this type of scam.
It is common for this type of scam to avoid sending "invoices", probably to avoid mail fraud charges. "Business directory" scams usually engage in harassing phone calls, or possibly faxing of fraudulent invoices to avoid the U.S. Mail. This particular scam appears to avoid mailing invoices themselves by passing off their fraudulent "accounts" to a debt collector, ACA Recovery.
ACA Recovery is reported to be collecting on fraudulent "bills" for this as well as another similar "business directory" scam that settled fraudulent invoicing charges with two state attorneys general. The length of time they have been collecting on these fraudulent accounts, combined with their having a second known business directory scam client, suggests that they are fully aware of the fraudulent nature of these "accounts".
Send a letter to ACA Recovery, certified so you have proof of mailing as well as their receipt, disputing the alleged debt as fraudulent.
File fraud complaints with your state Attorney General, the Florida Attorney General (allegedly the location of goyellowpages, or at least their mail drop), the New Jersey Attorney General (the location of ACA Recovery), www.ic3.gov (government site for reporting internet related fraud complaints), and FTC. You can also file a mail fraud complaint with the U.S. Postal Inspector, as ACA Recovery is acting as goyellowpages proxy in mailing fraudulent invoices.
Received collection notice in mail today. It sounds as if it is same letter as Roger Roofing & Siding Company. Spoke with representative from collection agency and they're supposed to be sending me the last invoice mailed to our small business. I asked what proof there was that this was authorized and they told me Thomas Lackas (president) verbally authorized. I told them he would not have, as all advertising goes through me. They then proceeded to ask my how his name would have come up if he did not authorize. (Thought this was a very illogical comment, as anyone can google a small business and find the owner/president. Well, unfortunately, now we have had to hire an attorney to send a letter, do not want to take the chance of having our credit rating tarnished.
