Wrong Address; Unable to Verify
Complaint

TRS called me first a year ago stating that I had a bounced check that I needed to pay for. I asked them to send me something in the mail since they come up as “UNAVAILABLE” on my caller ID. The man was very polite and said they had sent a notice out a week earlier and then asked me to verify my address. The address he read to me was NOT my address, and I told him so. He asked for my address. I told him my correct address was on my check and to send me notification in the mail and I would be happy to work with him. The next day I was again contacted by TRS. I went through the whole conversation again with a woman. This time she asked me to verify another address, this one also wrong. The third day another woman from TRS called and wanted me to verify a third address. I told her it was the third address they wanted me to verify and that I was not going to give them any information over the phone. I let them know that if they do in fact have a valid check of mine then they have my correct address, to send me something in the mail verifying who they are and this debt, and that I was no longer answering phone calls. I reitterated that I would not deal with them over the phone since they could not verify who they were, or obviously who I was. The woman told me that the only way they could resend any notices is if I gave them my address. Yeah right! I told her I wouldn’t give her any information over the phone, but if she wanted to give me their contact information I would have my attorney verify them. They didn’t give me contact information, just started rambling rude stuff, so I hung up. They have called over 5 times everyday (holidays and weekends included) for the last year. About three weeks ago they started leaving a recorded message. I want to be able to fight this and get the calls to stop. I understand they are in major violation, but I’m afraid if I send them something they will then have my address and cause more problems. Is it worth it, or should I continue to ignore them? Is there another way of fighting this that doesn't include giving up my personal information?

If they continue to harass you with calls, but refuse to disclose their own contact address to allow you to dispute this alleged "bounced check", then contact your state Attorney General. Your AG should be able to send a letter to them inquiring why they are harassing you, while evading your attempt at disputing under FDCPA.
they have a poor record at compliance with FDCPA validation requirements, so be prepared to sue them should they damage your credit or continue to harass you over any unowed "bounced check".
