On August 10 2012 my car was broken into and several of my passions were stolen. Although I live in a secure building, this crime seriously shook my perception of security to the core: My valet, my phone and several other personal identifications were amongst the stolen items and I feared that the consequences of identity theft would hunt me for days.
After filing a police rapport and the immediate cancellation of my bank cards at Citibank I hurried to my neighborhood SPRINT store on La Cienega Blvd across from the Beverly Center where I had to wait till opening time at 10 AM.
I expressed I needed a replacement of my phone, especially since the thieves had already placed phone calls from the stolen unit. I had loyally paid insurance for such a case. The representative said “No” this could not be done. Perplex is his explanation:
I pleaded that I was under the assumption that I would be getting a replacement but was corrected that I would have to pay yet another high fee for a replacement phone.
When I indicated it would cost less to cancel my contract with SPRINT and just re-join another company I was made aware of the fact I still owed over $100 for the “early cancellation” fee… Such a cost is still less than the $349 they expected me to pay for a replacement phone… It made no sense. I left and signed up with T-Mobile.
Today I receive an invoice from SPRINT claiming a cancellation fee of $350 dollars including an Insurance deductible of $100??? I paid my insurance… This retaliation for my cancellation is outrageous! SPRINT takes advantage of my fragile situation in the first hand and fails to uphold assistance they falsely promoted when I agreed to an insurance, and now I’m billed with horrendous cancellation fees an bogus insurance fee - it is criminal and unacceptable.
I am astonished that in the day of mass media communication a company claiming to be “for the people” activates such corrupt methods.
Sincerely
