We bought a Maytag gas stove mod #MGR5605WB0 Ser#VE10605005 on March 11, 2011.  We actually bought all new appliances (Maytag-stove, Amana-dishwasher, Hotpoint-refrigerator, Maytag-microwave) in 2011.  We were rennovating the kitchen, therefore we did not hook up the stove right away.  On July 21, 2012, we were having a gathering and the oven was in use.  While sitting in the kitchen, we heard a loud noise like a hissing or missel sound.  We did not know wether to run out of the house or stay put.  Finally, we noticed the glass inside the oven door crumbled!  I shut off the oven and my Husband opens the door in disbelief, only to have hot glass come pouring out of the oven onto the floor!  We were in shock!  We went to Home Depot the next day and let them know what happened since we do all of our purchasing there.  They apologized and gave us a number for Maytag.  Unfortunately, they could not help us, but said that they would call also.  The Manager at Home Depot said there should be recall and the product should be replaced.  We called Maytag and they are sending A&E Factory Service out tomorrow.  It sounds like they want to repair this oven door, but I want a new stove.  This upright stove gets so hot while using the stove and/or oven that you could cook an egg overhard on my countertops next to the stove.  Clearly there is a serious problem and I am scared!  I decided to post my problem so that People could beware of an oven that really burns and overheats!  This could be life threatening, and I don't want anyone to ignore it!  We came very close to having exploding hot glass in our face!  I dread repairs and delayed parts etc...  When I look around our house we are living in a world surrounded by Whirlpool, Maytag products!  Luckily, our washers and dryers are working fine and so are the other appliances.  Good Luck everyone!

Interesting!  I am having the exact same problem!  The door gets extremely hot and heats my entire kitchen when the oven is in use.  I thought there HAD to be a problem with the seal so I had a service technician come out to check the door.  Through diagnostic testing, the technician was able to see that the oven has only been used for a total of 10 hours.  The outer temperature measured 138 degrees F.  That temperature was taken after the oven had been on for only 10 minutes at 450 degrees.  The service technician agreed, especially after feeling how hot it was to the touch, that it wasn't right... so he called Maytag himself.  The person on the other end said that it was "normal" and for me to childproof my oven!!!  Are you kidding me?  How can an outer surface temperature of 138 degrees be normal?  I have a 1 year old, a 3 year old, and a 5 year old.  This is completely unacceptable and everyone that I have talked to completely agreed.  I am so irritated with the responses I have received so far from Maytag and Home Depot.  For some people, purchasing new appliances is a BIG DEAL and it is a BIG DEAL to us!  Childproof my kitchen??  I always use caution while cooking but I will NOT go out and buy baby gates to put around my oven while it is in use!  Besides, even if I did... the oven door would MELT THEM!  :/

I have been reading reviews of a Maytag range/oven, and at least 4 reviews noted how hot the door gets.  I will not be purchasing a maytag for this reason
