As you already know, it's a scam.

Contact FTC to file a fraud complaint.  FTC has been getting lots of similar fraud complaints against ACA Recovery and their "clients".

Include in your complaint that they played a faked "recording", fraudulently claimed it was you, and threatened to sue you.

Complaints against them go back years.

Old complaints (2004) show they started in the "payday loan" shakedown game, but it appears that now their only business is these fraudulent faked "business directory accounts".  Even as little as a couple years ago, they hid behind language only implying threats, and backed off collection harassment when their doctored "recordings" were challenged.

Several years ago, their "clients" only appeared to be using about 3 different names, but now names are proliferating monthly, probably to confuse or avoid potential prosecution.  They appear to be the central "collection agency" hub for a cluster of fraudulent telemarketers probably based in Montreal Canada.

What is showing up in the trend visible in their pattern of complaints is that they are becoming increasingly aggressive, directly using deceptive recordings that they must know are fraudulent, and brazenly using verbal threats to "sue".  They are still reported to back off following any hint of filing of AG complaints, but now small businesses are reported that once they swat one fake "invoice" scam, they just get held up for another under a different name.

If they had been collecting on consumer debt, they would have been sued out of existence years ago for violations of FDCPA, but they apparently choose this "business debt" racket since FDCPA and its penalties including legal fees don't apply.

The other factor showing up in recent reports is reuse of the faked "authorization" recordings.

Since these are generally edited or truncated anyway, there is really nothing to indicate when the recording was made, or what "company" made it.

It appears that either a scammer recording such a "verify your information" call to use in later fraudulent shakedowns, is either using that recording under multiple names, or ACA Recovery itself may be at the center of the fraudulent reuse of such recordings to collect under the names of multiple "clients".

If it's possible, it looks like they'll try it.

    SCAM!!!!
I got the same letter saying I owe $ 774.95 for Local Us Pages internet ad so I called ACA Recovery.  This is the second time they have tried this with me...desparate rude people.  Almost two years ago when they tried this I filed a report with the Better Business Bureau under Regional Yellow Pages online.  It appears the biggest problem is this ACA Recovery.  I also heard the fabricated voice recording. I am tired of dealing with this sort of thing when there is "real" work to do. I would like to pursue being compensated from them for all the time they have wasted my employees and me!

Does anyone have an attorney already working on this?

Why don't you call FTC and the New Jersey Attorney General, and ask them what they are doing about these crooks?

Okay guys, I was sent to this company to do data entry work, which sadly out of desperation I took (at $9 lousy bucks an hour, for a complete lunatic of a manager who scares the hell out of her employees).

I will tell you of my experiences working at ACA Recovery (which is at 395 W Passaic Street, Rochelle Park NJ -- 3rd Floor if anybody would like to drop in for a chat)

I have known from the first day, but as I need the work I must do data entry for them until I find another job (dont worry I am looking hard). They are part of an even larger scam -- as an unscrupulous collection agency that caters to bootleg, predatory online lenders and "advertisers",
