Nonstop calls from 626-273-8240
Complaint

Country: United States
I'm getting calls from this number - 626-273-8240 - NONSTOP, day and night! It's possibly a spoofed number, as many calls from this area in Cali are actually being bounced out of India & the Phillipines through a system similar to Skype. Oh, and don't believe for a second that your Land or Cell phone provider can't track it back to it's ACTUAL location. They can! It's just a matter of if they really want to be bothered with it & how much you pressure them to do it. Threats of legal action rarely work, but filing an actual complaint & seeking legal actions seems to work wonders to get them to get off their a**es to trace it back to it's place of origin.
In my case though, everytime I answer, they hang up instantly.
No machine, no person, just dead air, then it disconnects.
This is a CELLULAR number, and is issued by Digitcom Services, Inc.
General location: San Gabriel Valley/Alhambra/Los Angeles, CA area.
Contact them to file a harassment/attempted credit card fraud complaint:
http://www.digitcom.net/contact.asp
or call them at 310-358-7000 / 800-464-5446
In what I've read so far on here and other places in regards to this number, it seems to be attempted credit card fraud, and getting as much information as you can to report it is very necessary.
I would suggest reporting it directly to:
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
and also to:
https://secure.nclforms.org/nficweb/nfic.htm
also contact:
http://www.transunion.com/
http://www.equifax.com/
http://www.experian.com/
instantly and let them know what's possibly happening.
Once you place the fraud alert in your file, you're entitled to order one FREE copy of your credit report from each of the three consumer reporting companies immediately, and if you ask, only the last four digits of your Social Security number will appear on your credit reports from now on.
If one of your CC accounts shows fraud, have them close it immediately and issue you a new account number.
Sooner or later, if enough people complain and/or sue over these type of scams, the companies will have no choice but to act or risk losing all of their customers.

Comments
They are probably attempting to obtain "authorization", possibly merely the word "yes" in response to some part of their script, and since they already have account data, there is nothing to stop them from running through fraudulent charges.
You should watch your bank and credit card statements closely after receiving such calls to guard against fraud, and if they disclose what card of yours they have account information on, you should contact your bank immediately to report that your card has been compromised and close the account to prevent fraudulent charges.
File a local police complaint, as well as an FTC complaint, as deceptive calls from "telemarketers" already possessing your card data without authorization indicates violations of federal law, and the intent to defraud.

Meek - 12 Oct 2008
Calls me claiming to be with Platinum Plus Rewards having to do with my Mastercard. They ask for me by name, tell me my shipping address (which is also my billing address) to verify, and even know the last 4 digits of my card. They tell me that I've been a great customer and they want to send me a free gift. The only catch is, I have to pay for them to send it to me. Now I might have fallen for this if not for one detail. I've had the card since 1998 and only had the number they are calling on a year. The number they are calling is in no way related to any of my credit cards as I use my cell phone number to handle all of my business. I get this call from a few numbers and they are all the same pitch. The cost to ship my "gift" is anywhere from $1 - $6.
THIS IS A PHISHING CALL. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR INFO. THEY TELL YOU THE LAST 4 DIGITS SO YOU THINK THEY ARE LEGIT. THEN THEY TALK YOU INTO GIVING THEM YOUR CARD INFO TO PAY FOR THE SHIPPING OF YOUR "GIFT." ONCE HEY GET YOUR INFO, I WON'T BE LONG BEFORE YOU ARE A VICTIM OF A FEW FRAUDULNT PURCHASES.
TELL THEM TO TAKE YOU OFF THEIR LIST AND NEVER CALL AGAIN.

J Kruf - 10 Nov 2008
This number was calling me approx. 10 times a day. I finally answer to let them know I wanted to be taken off the list. After the woman finished her pitch (wouldn't let me interupt) I informed her that I did not want any gifts and the card they are calling on is a debit card and not platinum!!! She threatened me by stating she would charge my card $100 is I did not comply with her request!!! I couldnt believe what i was hearing. This is a scam to get your info...no legit company would allow an employee to speak like this. I asked for her name and she hung up on me. Good news I have not heard back since this incedent on Saturday afternoon.

Girl - 22 hours 59 minutes ago
They started calling me this morning at about 8:00 and have called every hour on the hour since then. I answered a few times and it was just noise and then the calls were disconnected. I finally answered about 10 minutes ago and some woman with a foreign accent tried to tell me that since my VISA account giving me my last 4 digits is in good standing. Well not only is this card a debit card, but it goes through my bank, so there is no third party reward system for a keeping a debit card in good standing. When she asked to verify my address, which she knew as well, I freaked out and said "how do you have that information?" I said I did not want anything from them and she hung up the phone. If they call again I'm not sure what to do. the numbers were 6262738240 and 6262738237
