In May we contacted Consumer First Legal Group or Network (They called themselves both Group and Network) in May of 2012 for help with our mortgage.  We had a telephone interview, gave all of our information, and were told that Consumer First Legal could definitely help modify our mortgage and drop our payment significantly.  We were told that we had to put down $1330.00 and were told that it would be $600.00 per month for no more than three months to process all of the paperwork to get the loan modification.  We were sent a list of papers to send, which we did send.  This process repeated itself several times with weeks going by without returned calls, answered emails only to finally be told that things were being held up because they were still waiting on paperwork, which had been faxed over as soon as it was requested and sometimes multiple times!!!!  We were told that we were not to have any contact with our Mortgage Company.  We were told from the beginning to send any correspondence from our Mortgage Company right away, which we did.  We started getting letters from foreclosure lawyers representing our Mortgage Company.  We sent those letters and tried to get in contact with someone at Consumer First Legal to express our concerns with no success.  For several weeks we tried to get in touch with Luisa Martinez and Ana Gomes, whom we were told we needed to talk to.  Through this whole process we have been treated unprofessionally, have been given the run around, have seen no progress and were lied too.  We were told a few weeks ago by Consumer First Legal that they were in negotiations with our Mortgage Company, Wells Fargo, and that “the package” was being submitted.
The final red flag was raised when we were contacted by Ana Gomes stating that she still needed some papers.  We therefore called Wells Fargo and found out that Consumer First Legal Network or Legal Group (which sometimes they called themselves one and sometimes the other; very confusing!), has never contacted them.  We were told that our home was in foreclosure and they were getting ready to set a sale date!  We told Wells Fargo about the paperwork that Consumer First Legal Network had sent us to fill out.  The representative at Wells Fargo told us that the paperwork was bogus.  We were sent by Consumer First Legal Network paperwork to fill out for Making Homes Affordable which Wells Fargo told us that those were easily printed off of the internet, and that program a consumer would first have to qualify for.  We are now trying to get something worked out with our mortgage company on our own now that we have been wasting time and money with the fraud that Consumer First Legal has committed.  We are not the only ones that have fallen victim.  We have found many other cases on the internet with the exact same circumstances.  Because of what they have done we our out of $3130 in money drafted out of our account paid to Consumer First Legal, and we are $10,000 behind in our mortgage.  We want our money back from Harold E. Stafford, Consumer First Legal Network, 8253 May Drive, Suite 309, Madison, Wisconsin 53719.  Telephone number 561-494-0208.   They took advantage of our hardship and we do not want anyone else falling victim to this scam.

I was also contacted by a Miranda from First Legal. She told me the retainer was $3000, half now and half after 30 days. Same story as above. My call was from South Carolina. Told me I was a good candidate for modification. Told me that it would be a much lower interest rate. Even gave me a figure of what my new payment would be. I feel so stupid giving the information I did, but doing this all alone, with children (one who has medical issues) still home...I panicked because my home is in foreclosure status...my kids and I could be homeless soon....so I talked to her and gave her info!!. Well like others said...if I had that kind of money for a retainer...I wouldn't be in the situation I am in!! I am so glad I talked to my sister, her husband had a few attorney friends look into this and they said many of the things Miranda told me were not true. That it is illegal to ask for money upfront for a loan modification....bottom line it is a scam. She even told me that it is illegal for a mortgage company to charge the interest rate they were charging me...found out that is not true. I also got the email immediately while I was on the phone as well. This other attorney said, bottom line if they contact you and want money upfront...it's a scam

FIRST LEGAL WAS GREAT WITH ME, MIRANDA TOLD ME WHAT SHE COULD AND COULD NOT DO. WE GOT BEHIND TRYING TO PAY MEDICAL BILLS FOR OUR SON WHO WAS PARALYZED IN A CAR ACCIDENT. SHE IS SO SWEET AND SHE ACTUALLY CARED. SHE CALLED AND CHECKED TO SEE HOW WE WERE DOING THE WHOLE WAY THROUGH. WHEN WE STARTED, WE HAD A SALE DATE FOR 2 WEEKS AWAY AND OUR HOUSE WAS SAVED! IF YOU DID YOUR RESEARCH YOU WOULD'VE FOUND OUT THIS:

      Attorney exemption
Attorneys are generally exempt from the rule if they meet three conditions: they are engaged in the practice of law, they are licensed in the state where the consumer or the dwelling is located, and they are complying with state laws and regulations governing attorney conduct related to the rule. To be exempt from the advance fee ban, attorneys must meet a fourth requirement – they must place any fees they collect in a client trust account and abide by state laws and regulations covering such accounts.

*THEY USE LAWPAY.COM WHICH IS ALL LEGIT. LOOK IT UP. THE TRUST ACCOUNT MAKES SURE THEY GET PAID WHEN THEY DO THE WORK JUST LIKE WHEN YOU GO TO WORK YOU WANT YOUR PAYCHECK RIGHT? ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO TAKE THE WORD OF THE HOMEOWNER WHO HASNT PAID THEIR MORTGAGE IN UPTEEN MONTHS? "I PROMISE ILL PAY YOU AT THE END" YEAH OK YOUR TRACK RECORD IS AWESOME

I've been contacted by Miranda-Atty Melanie Emery. She had my email address and knew just about everything. How did she find this out?????? I was also told to pay $3,000.00 and they can do wonderful things to help me.  If I had $3,000.00 extra I wouldn't be in this mess. What is a legitimate company to help me?

Since the complaint involves the ethical conduct of the attorney, you should file with the Commission on Lawyer Conduct.  A letter, identifying the attorney and outlining the problems, should be sent to the Commission.  It must be signed by the person making the complaint.  Attach copies of any documents – letters, emails, etc. – that support your claim.  Do not send your originals.  They do not take complaints via email or phone.  Send the letter to:

This company is not a scam. Would you work for no money at all?? And besides the money that they ask for upfront is put into a trust account. I put my full trust into this company and guess what...they got me my modification, got me a lower interest rate, AND guess what they also lowered my payments a little more than 500 dollars a month. Soooooooo if that's  scam then i don't know what you would call good service. No matter what you do in life, there are always going to be naysayers. The company has been in business for 13+ years and you mean to tell me that in that amount of time there won't be any complaints?? Get a life people. Most people have unrealistic expectations and want something that isn't feesable. Oh and by the way, the people you family member talked to were probably loan modification attorneys as well and didn't want you spending your money on another attorney when you could spend it on them. It's sad that people expect one to work for free. They have a refund policy for christ sake!!! NO other law firm will do that. They will take your money, say they did the work for you, and you'll still be homeless at the end of the day. Good luck with that

They did the same to me as well. Now the money I was going to use to stop sale on my home is in their bank account. I don't know what to do. I filed a complaint with the NC Attorney General's Office. My house set to sale Aug 14. They took advantage of my desperation to save my home. I have the same emails everyone else has. I wish I had found this site prior to this nonsense. I never signed the contract. They assured me they would refund my money but I have yet to see it. Any advice??

I reported FirstLegalNet to the NC Attorney General's Office, the FTC, and my recently retained attorney about getting my money back. I sent them an email which included the email of my attorney and the attorney general. I informed them of my research and the fact that I found them to be fraudulent and falsely representing themselves to those is need. I further demanded my money back as I was going to pursue the matter with my attorney and the state attorney. After the first two phone calls with these people, I started recording the conversation and saving the emails. I told them that is what I had done and had, in fact, forwarded them to my attorney and state attorney's office. They (Randy Ray) replied a very short time later (on Saturday) with a phone message and a transaction receipt showing my money will credited back to my account on Monday or Tuesday. Furthermore, Randy Ray requested that I "suspend" my complaints in this matter as my money refund had been "processed" and would be returned to me. When it posts, I will update you. My suggestion is to keep logs of everything, record phone conversations (most cell phones can record while you talk) and forward it to your state attorney's office and the FTC.

Low life predators taking advantage of those in a vulnerable state. This ordeal only made me FIGHTING MAD!! They danced their last dance because they just danced with the devil! It will not stop until I get my money back.

Let me start by saying that this client got her money back right away.  Ericka Heath is a police officer who cant pay her bills on time.  It shows laps of judjement.  It shows that she cannot manager her money or her life.  She lost her home.  I save homes and I could have save your home.  The reason that we are in this situation is beacuse of people like erika.  She took out a loan and defrauded the system.  Now hard working Americans cant get a loan because of her and her actions.  And she got a refund

I hired Bacon Law / First Legal Net in March of 2013.  I paid theM $2900.00.  THEY ARE A SCAM.  DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!  THEY WILL TELL YOU WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR, MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE THEY ARE GOING TO SAVE YOUR HOME, AND AFTER THEY HAVE YOUR MONEY...THEY QUIT FOLLOWING UP WITH YOU AND YOUR LENDER.  i AM NOW FACING FORECLOSURE.  THEY DID NOTHING FOR ME!!!!    THEY DO NOT HAVE A GOOD RATING WITHE BBB...ITS AN "F" RATING.  I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB, SOUTH CAROLINA BAR ASSOCIATION, THE INDIANA  ATTORNEY GERNERAL AND THE SOUTH CAROLINA ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICES.  I WILL FIGHT TO GET MY MONEY BACK AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYONE ELSE THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN SCAMMED BY BACON LAW FIRM TO DO THE SAME.  MY NEXT STEP IS TO THE MEDIA.  IF I CAN BRING NATIONAL ATTENTION TO A COMPANY THAT IS RIPPING PEOPLE OFF, I SUGGEST OTHERS TO STEP FORWARD AND DO THE SAME.  THERE IS STRENGTH IN NUMBERS!

You may be facing foreclosure but that does not mean you have a sale date or your house is going under. The modification process slows the foreclosure process down so that nothing happens to your self. Maby you should stop worrying to much. Your the one who got your self into the mess that you are in.
