The below is a long post but please bear with me. BEWARE of Agarwal Packers and Movers (DRS group) @agarwalpackersIndia. This has happened with my parents so I am speaking from experience!
This is verbatim from Pranab Sarkar and Debjani Ghosh Sarkar - "The undersigned was serving JSW Steel Vidyanagar near Bellary, Karnataka state. After retirement in February’ 2016, I was looking for relocation services and based on my past experience requested for quotation with details of list of items to Agarwal Packers and movers (DRS group).
The details of article list with valuation was also forwarded. Special mention was made for costly items i.e. all glass items and values were also mentioned (Rs 30,000/-). The quotation given to us was not clear and hence I requested them for a site inspection. During site inspection specific mention was made of all glass items that were very costly and needed special care and handling. It was also mentioned to them that the glass items were transported by your group only by preparation of wooden crates when I shifted from Chennai to Toranagallu in October 2007. The representative from Agarwal packers and Movers (DRS group), who visited my home, was called Mr. Sandeep Kumar & he assured us of safety and security of all items. We were again sent an offer and were informed that for safe transit I should hire a full container normally used for Shifting Car and though I do not have car, they insisted on it for safety of my costly items.
When the packers came with vehicle they did not bring any carpenter with them and informed that they will pack all items in 2 days and carpenter shall arrive on next day. In practice they took 3 days and out of goodness, I arranged their stay in my company guest house and paid for their food. On second day, they informed that they have been instructed by Sandeep Kumar to pack without crating but assured nothing will happen as they are doing it day in, day out. With 70 % packing done we had no option but to agree with them.
The vehicle had reached Kolkata in the stipulated five days but only after 3 days of follow up at packer's godown, it was delivered to us. On reaching my house, they refused to open the lock of vehicle for unloading till the balance 20% payment that was to be cleared on delivery i.e. last Rs. 18,000/- is cleared. On my insistence to check the material first, they threatened to take the vehicle back. I was forced to clear the payment. On opening the lock we noticed that rain water had entered inside the vehicle and most of our material was damp and in terrible condition as water had spoiled the cartons and gone into many of our valuable cloths and cushions.
The driver informed that he is not the driver who brought the vehicle from Toranagallu, Karnataka and the original driver after garaging the vehicle has left on urgency and did not inform that there is crack in roof of container vehicle or else they would have covered the vehicle with tarpaulin.
First item out were mattresses that were wet and torn. Next was designer dining table top (3.5 ft * 5.5 ft) in broken condition. The unloading supervisor reported that they have been given intimation from Hubli that the dining table glass top broke in Torangallu, karnataka itself as it had fallen while loading it into the truck and that they had failed to inform us of this. I immediately contacted Sandeep Kumar who confirmed the fact and assured that it will be replaced.
While unloading, unloaders called me and showed me that the legs of center Table (Made of one piece heat bend glass is totally broken into pieces). They categorically mentioned the table was in broken condition and assured of replacement.
They also provided us the details of claim procedure and their contact numbers. We then and there itself, contacted Ms Kusum, the designated claim officer and she confirmed visit to assess and damage. She requested us not to disturb the damaged furniture.
Ms Kusum first had deputed her assistant Mr. Sukumar after weeks of follow-up. A damage list was prepared. Ms Kusum confirmed that damaged wooden furniture and steel Almairah would be repaired and painted and glass items would be decided by her after own visit. However visit of Ms Kusum was not happening, so undersigned contacted Mr. Murali in Hyderabad who in turn advised to talk to Mr. Salil Sinha, DGM of Agarwal Packers and Movers (DRS group) in Kolkata. Mr. Sinha was very helpful and arranged visit of Ms Kusum. Ms Kusum along with Sukumar again had a detailed look and declared that two glass items are beyond repair and she informed that she will enquire present market price and then talk about replacement or cost compensation.
Continuous follow-up with Mr. Sinha and Ms Kusum concluded that the cost of glass items are approximately Rs. 30,000/- and as per rule of compensation of company they can reimburse only Rs. 17,000/- and if I agree they will send for approval of said amount to HO at Hyderabad.
At this point, after days of follow up and staying with broken items (since I was not moving them before claim proceedure was over) and Out of sheer disgust with Agarwal Packers and Movers (DRS group), I agreed and told Mr. Sinha to expedite and send technician for other repairs. AGAIN, Nothing happened and almost after a week, I visited Agarwal packers & Movers (DRS group) at new Alipore office and could catch hold of Mr. Sinha who informed that he has put down his papers from Agarwal and I should talk to Mr. Murali. Others informed me that Ms Kusum has also left.
With lot of persuasion, I could talk to Mr. Murali and he confirmed resignation of Sinha and Kusum and provided number of Mr. B.K. Mishra, the new in charge of Kolkata office, and would handle my case. Again same discussion happened and finally Mr. Mishra confirmed that again HO Approval for Rs. 17,000/- is being sent to HO for approval.
Later Mr. Mishra washed off his hand from the complete case and told me to talk to Mr. Murali, who is head of Claims in Agarwal Packers & Movers (DRS group). Mr. Murali also delayed decision for 3 weeks and then sent an email informing Rs. 5,500/ can only be paid. On my protest and information to him that he is forcing me to go to social media and consumer court, he commented it will serve no purpose as he will ensure that the case be dragged till infinity. However again an email was received from Mr. Murali by increasing the amount to Rs. 6200/-. The matter is still pending as I, as a customer, feel cheated by Agarwal Packers and Movers (DRS group) and refuse to be taken for a ride by such an unscrupulous company and its management."
---- This is how Agarwal Packers and Movers (DRS group) cheats customers and makes them go through painstaking process to claim what they are due.. All the damages incurred are due to MISHANDLING AND NEGLIGENCE of Agarwal Packers and Movers (DRS Group) and it is shameful to hear the HEAD OF CLAIMS MR. MURALI commenting on how it is my family who will suffer as HE will ensure that the case is dragged till infinity
