collection on a paid bill

Country: United States
My husband had been receiving home delivery of solumedrol for his Multiple Sclerosis every month from Walgreen pharmacy which was covered by his insurance. We were not informed when his insurance changed and a delivery was sent to us from them. His nurse called the company and we were told to keep the shipment free of charge. Then the bill started to arrive. With much discussion they were paid by the insurance and Walgreens is still trying to collect from us. We sent proof to them it was paid and they said they would correct their records. We are now being hounded by a collection agency.

In addition, you can contact your state Attorney General to report attempted medical billing fraud (double billing) by Walgreens. Your state has an interest that medical billing is accurate, as they are also major payors for medical services.
Send a letter to the collection agency disputing the alleged debt, and demanding proof it is owed.
Mail this certified. If you send this letter within 30 days of first contact by the collection agency, and they continue to collect without sending proof from the original creditor (Walgreen's) that it's owed, you can sue them for violating FDCPA. If they post damaging erroneous information on your credit reports, send disputes to the CRAs. If they fail to correct, you can sue them for violations of FCRA.
