Received collection notice via Blast fitness without being billed or notified of membership

I was a Bally's member since 1983. I signed us as a golden member which meant I could go to any gym and at the end of a year would have a lifetime annual renewal charge of $5. In the meantime, I moved out of state but was able to keep my membership and was billed every year. After Bally's filed bankruptcy, I never received any more renewal notices, bills, or any notification whatsoever. My last correspondence from them was dated August 2009.

Flash forward to March 2015. I receive a collection notice from Seas and Associates, LLC on behalf of Blast. I called the collection agency because I didn't even understand why I was getting that bill. The man started asking me all these personal questions like date of birth without explaining what was going on. I stopped it right there and said I'd contact Blast.

I never even signed a contract with them. I have lived in a different state for 27 years. Now the particular location isn't even owned by Blast anymore -- they went out of business an their phone is disconnected. I am assuming they took over my contract with Bally's and that is why I was in their system. (BTW my contract with Bally's is that I lose my membership if I don't renew and the contract is then void. It is NOT that I am obligated to pay anything to them at all. If I want to keep my sweet deal of $5 per year, I need to pay it annually.)

Has anyone else and this issue? If so, was it resolved? I just emailed the corporate office.
