BUYER DO BEWARE ABOUT BUYING ANY PRODUCT ASSOCIATED WITH SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY
At the end of March 2011 I replaced a defective hard drive with a brand new hard drive from Seagate Model # (9YP154-303).
So here the story unfolds; as I go to use my lively hood, the computer, I encountered a problem with the reading and writing heads on their hard disk drive, they had collapsed and caused the hard drive and my computer to crash and burn for over a week!
As far as I can see this malfunction was caused by their faulty workmanship and/or product defect.
NOW that was the just the start,.
Stupid me, I was under the illusion that they made great new and replacement equipment and would stand behind their product, especially since it was less than 180 days old and I was using it in a light manner.
the problem was the reading and writing heads, on the disk drive collapsed and caused the hard drive and my computer to go down!
.Their rationale is if goes down they will replace the drive, but not the data unless you pay an extorted cost to them to recover the disk and along with their cavalier attitude that the buyer needs to beware is pervasive in their company employees attitude I knew I was not important to them or their product image!!
The lab that does the recovery, is owned and run by them and yet they want more than $ 2,500.00 to TRY and recover the sector destroyed by their BAD drive and will not even guarantee that the will be able to recover anything!
Their THOUGHT is; since you, the buyer, only spent $200.00 or so to purchase this drive they are under no obligation to assist you; even though their product destroyed over $10,000.00 of information, some which can not ever be recovered!
NOW, I as a former Seagate admirer and NOW a PAST stockholder, I will not sit by and not inform others NOT to purchase their equipment due to their laze fare attitude and lack of PRODUCT PRIDE!!!

The numerous misspellings, the atrocious grammar...
But, of course, the idiocy of the users expectations are the best part of it all. I mean really. What reasonable person in this day and age would expect the drive manufacturer to be responsible for recovering the data fro free, if at all.
Small computer hard drives have been out since the 1980's, and since that time, not one single hard drive vendor, or computer manufacturer for that matter, has NOT had a clause in their warranty excluding them for any/all responsibility for any data loss due to failure of their product.
Earth to clueless dude: NO hard drive manufacturer will recover your data for free, even if it is on a drive you bought 2 days ago. In fact, most won't even offer a recovery service at all. The fact that Seagate even has such a service (for a fee) is further proof of what a good HD manufacturer they are.
LOL...LOLOLOLOL.... Duh!
