BEWARE THE SCAM - EZ Rent A Car

I made a car reservation through CheapOair & was booked with EZ Rent A Car in Orlando.  At the time of the reservation I declined the insurance & was charged for car rental & check-in fees only. Because I am HANDICAPPED & cannot drive I booked the car in my daughter’s name as well as mine.

Upon arriving in Orlando (Dec 16), since there was a large queue & I was in a wheelchair my daughter had to sign for the car. The counter was too tall & not designed for handicapped individuals. Additionally, my daughters each have a toddler less than 2 years. The car agent recommended a Minivan since I needed a mobile scooter & to accommodate the infant car seats. At this point the children were tired and crying after the plane trip & I had an assistant waiting with me to wheel me the car. I agreed at this point to the upgrade in cars – which was my mistake!!  My daughters declined the insurance – making it clear we did not want any insurance!!!!

BEWARE THE SCAM ARTISTS:  On Line 3 of the EZ Rent A Car contract you decline the Supplemental Rental Liability Insurance & write your insurance company.  

***IMPORTANT:  Hidden on line 4 the contract states that you agree to accept the Collision Damage Waver at $24.99 per day.

The Rental Agent circled the lines stating that my daughter needed to initial these lines – knowing we did not want insurance. They count on the fact that you are tired from the trip; the kids are cranky –etc.

At the end of our trip (Dec 21- after the huge snow storm), when we checked in the car we asked the EZ Rental attendant in the garage to call the airport for assistance -- since we had luggage, two screaming toddlers in strollers and me in a wheel chair! After 45 minutes we realized no one was coming & started struggling in the airport. Luckily a good distance later an attendant reentering the airport asked if we needed aid. He was shocked to find that the EZ Rental employee never called for help!

Additionally, I questioned the charges and was sent back to the main desk. When we protested the charges the EZ Rental attendant refused to assist us – stating we’d need to talk to the manager. It took the manager an hour to come to the desk and of course he refused to reverse the charges.  Because of EZ Rental’s lack of service and delays we almost missed our plane (over 1 ¾ hours total).  

****While we were waiting for the manager we tried to inform customers of the contract provisions & were told to shut-up since it was the way they made their money.

Bottom line: We were told that we would have to discuss the charges with corporate. I also contacted CheapOair and they confirmed I declined insurance.

Naturally, when I talked to the EZ Rental corporate service representative he refused to refund the money.

As stated previously by many others -- this company is only concerned with SCAMING their customers to increase their profit margin. Being retired military – I’ve rented cars all over the world from numerous reputable, honest, trustworthy, reliable car rental companies and have NEVER experienced this situation!  

I agree that there should be a class action law suit against them. No other business could get away with this appalling method of illegally taking customers money – especially when they know they are HANDICAPPED!!!!!!!!

    When we came to the counter a young man Nash was the epitome of arrogance without a cause. The car we had a reservation "was no longer available". There was no discussion only that we would have to pay the higher rate. When I asked for the corporate number he gave us a bogus number.  So I willl Yelp and complain. Now we are stuck at the airport without a car.  Also Angie's list. These people are shysters

    I just got a letter in the mail saying that i'm being charged for $689.44 for a 1inch scratch on the bottom of the bumper. When we evaluated it, it looked like someone to a carrot peeler to the bumper. Like everyone else, no attendant came to help or walk us. I've gone through multiple car rental agencies and if there's any damage greater than a certain diameter. We didn't  need to record this issue since it was so tiny and wouldn't be liable for the damages.

    I just called customer support, the investigation will happen for about 2 weeks and i'll get an email upon completion. this is ridiculous

    I too am having a huge unethical problem with E-Z rent a car. I returned the rental in the same condition as I received the car, did the walk around with the attendant, as the attendant said everything looks FINE no new damage I signed off and on my way to the airport I went. 3 weeks later I received a letter stating I owe $230 for damages or losses to the car, which were not described to me in the letter. I have now attmpted to contact the Risk claims department and have not received a call back in 3 days. I have requested a description of the damage and pictures as the letter states "pictures available upon request". This company is horrible and unethical. I would NOT recommend anyone rents from them and I deal with thousands of people who travel a week and tell every one of them to NEVER rent from E-Z. I crunched the numbers and this company, I would have recommended to people, decided to SCAM me and has now turned what they think as a $230 profit into approximately a $40,000 a year loss. Well looks like other rental car companies will enjoy the benefits. I honestly feel that if this company continues to operate in this fashion they will be out of business just based on KARMA!! DO NOT RENT FROM E-Z!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I am going through this myself.  Rented in Vegas, arrived at the desk after a VERY long night of travel, told the woman at the counter that I didn't want ANY extra insurance, NONE!  She told me to initial here, here, here and here - which I did.  Of course that was my mistake.  I have never rented a car before, so I figured that if I told them NO INSURANCE, they would honor that.  I had the vehicle for a WEEK and ended up getting charged an additional $250!  I am working on getting the charges reversed, but so far, nothing.  The BS about them wording it as a WAIVER is what screwed me:(

    It seems to me that a lot of people had issues w. Renting from E Z.. I suggest that we sue the pants off of them for their overcharges and poor customer service. I filed my complaint on ripoff.com if you want to take a gander. My fiance has a lawyer friend with whom I can get legal advice from.       Yup...same story here...beware of hk Craig and associates...their collection company! They say I owe them over 800 bucks! I did nothing to the car...this is how they make their money! Where is the class action lawsuit against these guys? They told me if I don't pay my license will be revoked. This is an outrage!

        I would like to sincerely apologize for the service you experienced, but rest assured, when management read your comment, I was quickly fired. Since then I have been living on the streets, but at least its warm most of the year here! I wish you all the best!

      Based on my recent personal experiences, EZ has become one of the most corrupt car rental businesses in the industry.  At every check-in they will switch you or try to switch you into a more expensive rental.  You cannot rely upon them to truthfully explain to you what you are initialing.  The worst thing I experienced was their recent scam to offer an online discount of 10% when you click to leave their website.  However, after you checked the box to accept the 10% discount that is actually shown on your receipt, they will still charge your credit card the full non-discounted price.  When I mentioned this to them, they stated that I would have to email them, which I have done many times to no avail.

      I can't see these guys being around much longer if they are willing to endure a class action lawsuit rather than simply pay their customer the $80 discount that they agreed to provide to them.  I think they recently merged with Advantage but I don't think that will save them.

      easy rental rented me a car with the wrong plates on it almost got me arrested and then told me they would not replace the car and no longer do business with me

      At the time of booking the car was unlimited km. At the counter they said this is 200 km per day. They charged me CDW at 25.99 CAD a day and the taxes and at the end they said that this is a damage at the bottom of the door, which is a small thing I did not see at all,  and they charged me 550 CAD without my authorization. I will not recommend this company.
