Only scammers will ask you to buy gift cards to pay for anything!

Gift cards are not limited to scam usage or they would've been taken off the market. Utility companies, amazon, and many legitimate companies accept gift cards for payment. It's easier than using my debit card sometimes, and it presents a convenience. So I cannot agree that the use of gift cards are limited like that

Gift cards are best used when sent to friends and family members - people you know.  They are like cash, non-reversible and cannot be charged back - that's why scammers love them.  Stores post warnings near their gift card displays, and many store clerks are trained to spot customers who buy large amounts of gift cards who are likely to be scam victims.
Legitimate businesses tend to prefer online payments via services such as PayPal, Venmo, CashApp, etc.
