i recently purchased a pair of tires from walmart. they were uniroyal liberator at. tire size 235/70-16 they supposedly came with a 50,000 mile warranty. the display also advertised they had excellant traction on and off the road. i live on a gravel road so thinking these were the tires for me i bought them. in less then 20,000 miles these tires were completely wore out, with less than a 32nd of tread left. when i took them back to walmart i was told it was because i drive on a gravel road and they would not replace them. i then emailed firestone but never got a reply. the warranty did not state any where that a dirt or gravel road was grounds to void it. wheres my tires . these things cost 300.00 plus i have to buy another pair

these tires are not really meant for off paved-road driving. in fact any tire including off-road tires will wear significantly faster when used in tough terrain.  as tires wear they will also perform less than expected.  this happens with any tire.  people seem to expect much more than they get when they put things to uses that exceed recommendations.   i got over 70K miles on ours, basically on paved roads but occasionally on dirt or gravel roads.  these tires were mounted on a 2001 pathfinder rear wheel drive.  i am looking to buy a new set now.  consider the price of michelins, bridgestone, pirelli, etc, i will go back to wal mart and buy their uniroyal liberators for $200 less.

The reason firestone didn't reply is because Michelin owns Uniroyal, not Firestone.

I have around 30,000+ on a set Uniroyal Long Touring T/A's from Walmart and 1/2 the tread remains. My problem is dry rot. Each tire is cracking to different degrees. One is even cracking in the tread. A tire guy at Sam's Club looked at them and checked the manufacturing dates. Each was different, the oldest had a 2003 mfg. date. It was the worst of the 4 tires. So next set I buy, I want to know when they were made.
