There are scam "debt collectors" out there who pretend to be collecting on other's accounts, either by bluff, or sometimes using information sold by some employee or ex-employee. of the creditor. This has particularly been a problem with "payday loan debt collection". They typically use abuse, harassment, and threats to evade providing documentation to prove their right to collect the alleged "debt", because they have no such right. Never pay any debt collector who does not provide documentation proving what is owed by whom, for what, and that matches your own records. There are lots of scammers out there.
