Whirpool Duet error messages, bad smell and leaks.

I too bought my Whirlpool Duet front loading washer in 2008 and immediately experienced problems. The clothes did not seem to come clean and the front door seal leaked. The machine was serviced with a new front door gasket but it continued leaking and we have to keep a towel under the front door. Soon after this the water pump failed and was replaced. I examined the old pump and noticed it had accumulated dirty water which had a bad odor inside the actual motor part of the pump. This putrid water is always trapped in there and does not get rinsed out when the pump drains. I discovered that this dirty water is what is giving the machine a bad smell inside even when empty. There is bacteria in that pump and I do not believe there is anything that the user can do about it unless the pump is replaced. Then a few months later several different error messages popped up which prevented it going through the whole cycle. We were told the MCU and control board were defective by a service technician. I wrote an email to Whirlpool explaining my concerns but the response from them is that they stand behind their product. And so the machine is sitting here because it is too costly to repair and I am using my 25 yr old Maytag which runs perfectly.
