Closed down without a refund

I signed up for this fitness center in May 2018. The owner of the gym one Jax charged me $100 for the first six months which I paid. I could not attend the gym for a month due to illness. When I was eventually able to attend, l was shocked to see a notice on the door stating that the gym had closed down its business. I did not receive any prior notification. The gym equipment had been removed and doors locked! When I called Jax for my refund, he rudely told me he also lost money in the business and my $100 was nothing compared to what he lost! I feel cheated and scammed and I bet I wasn't the only victim.
