My boss has just told me that i was going to work part time instead of full time when I received a call form (702)705-5046 about the work from home... i was excited about it since my job went to part time, but then i search the internet and i saw all this complaints and i realize it was too goog to be true. So I called the bank to stop the transaction and they can not do anything about it. They suggested to file a debit complaint once the transaction has been posted. I hope this could be done... I hate people that takes advantage of other... I really hope they get caught...

They are basically a scam.  They make money convincing people to pay them about $70 for a worthless "information packet".

Anyone advertising "work at home" is probably running a scam.

I recieved a call from this number this afternoon, but it was not from any of the above listings. It was from a company called GMI Enterprises. I spoke to a very nice girl named Tonisha, operator #132. The call was about processing Government Mortgage Insurance loans for people who have overpaid their FHA Loans, the idea here is to call the people and inform them that they will be recieving a check from the Department of Treasurey in whatever the amount is that they have overpaid. She also said that the call was recorded for customer assurance, and that there was also a one time fee of $69.00 plus $10.00 S+H, Total:$79.00, for this fee I will be sent an orientation package that will include a list of names of the people who are entitled to this refund, customer support from GMI and some other information as well. She said that I would make between $400.00-$800.00 working from home by doing this. She also quoted to me GMI's guarantee that if for any reason I wish to no longer do this job, that all I need to do is send them a copy of the list of names that they sent to me and the orientation package, and my credit card will be refunded the initial fee of $69.00. She said that I would be recieving my package within 7-10 business days. I have never tried any of these work from home things, so I thought "why not try it?" I will let you all know how it turns out. I promise!

For many years, the upfront mortgage insurance premium that is added to the principal balance of FHA mortgages was refundable on a pro-rata basis no matter how the loan was paid off. This was changed several years ago and now the upfront mortgage insurance fee is only refundable if you are refinancing with another FHA insured mortgage. Because this change is many years old now, most people who were due a refund from HUD have already received their refund. Yet everyday I still see ads enticing people to work from home “processing” HUD refunds!

Folks, don’t fall for either scam. You won’t make significant money helping people get those refunds because not that many people are still on the list and they have already been bombarded by letters offering this service. But more importantly, it is 100% absolutely free both to check the records to determine if you are due a refund and also to request that refund.

    What's to catch?

It is easy enough already to find where they are, and it's easy enough to find out that lots of people have been conned.  The complaints are all consistent.

The problem is it isn't a high priority to FTC or most state AGs to go after them, and they know it.  As long as they maintain some semblance of selling a "product", and keep the amount of the charges low enough, it isn't worth it for any one victim to take legal action, or even file a complaint, and it is even questionable whether legal action by FTC or an AG would do much beyond making them start again under a new name.

Fraud is rampant, and apparently there are seldom any consequences.

The best you can do is make their activities known, and tie together multiple complaints if that helps present a clearer picture of their activities to those who decide to Google before they get taken.

Beyond that, stronger enforcement of the Do Not Call law would probably accomplish more, since violations are easier to prove.  You either did, or did not, purchase the regional DNC lists to scrub your call list.  End of story.  Telemarketing appears to be required to perpetrate these scams.
