This charge repeatedly showed up on my credit card bill, in spite of my calls to have it removed. I did not order anything or want anything from them, in fact I had never heard of them. They are unresponsive in removing these charges and say they can do nothing retroactively.

This is a cramming scam, set up to ram through fraudulent charges, and make excuses for keeping the stolen money.
File fraud disputes through your bank, and have your bank block your card number to prevent additional fraud.
Your bank can reverse charges disputed within 60 days of the statement date of the statement showing the disputed charge, under FRB Reg. E or FCBA.
