A guy left a message on my answering machine - didn't leave his name just said he was calling from Allied Interstate "in reference to a debt and to call (800) 806-3342 and a representative will help...blah blah"   We have no debts and do not appreciate being harrassed by scammers.

Recent FTC settlement with Allied Interstate, for harassing calls, for collecting debts from people who did not owe them, and for failing to verify they had the right person.

“Debt collectors had better make sure their information is accurate, or they could end up paying a big penalty,” said David Vladeck, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “There is no excuse for trying to collect debt from someone if you can’t confirm that they actually owe it.”

Save the voice mail message and contact a consumer attorney. Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) that message could be a violation and worth money damages to you.

    Good advice.

Recent complaints are showing that Allied Interstate is failing to control its prohibited practices in compliance with their recent settlement with FTC.

I had no less than 50 obnoxious pre-recorded cell phone messages from this Allied Interstate asking me to call them about a debt. When I finally called them from another number they asked what number they were calling because they didn't have my name, just a number!!??!! I wasn't even sure they were legitimate or involved in identity theft of some kind. The person handling the call asked me if I was Soon Nam and I said no. She removed me from their calling list. I still think it is very low class and nervy to send 10 calls a day pre-recorded - normally I would not respond to a pre-recorded call so I checked them out on the internet and it seems they harrass people to collect debt and are only border line legit. I still wonder how my phone number got into their system - I pay all my bills on time!

They are under a consent agreement with FTC regarding harassing phone calling.

Contact FTC to report any violations.
