I agree with what everyone has said. All of the above have happened with my washer but my biggest complaints are the mildew smell from almost the beginning, and the now foul sour odor. I leave lid opened when not in use hoping will dry it out but does not help. I bought washing machine cleaner and ran to packages of that through to no avail. I have run numerous cycles with nothing but bleach and cleaned all the areas i can get to with bleach, all with no results. The washing machine does not clean clothes and leaves white deodorant marks on tops. Now has started to agitate without filling with water. I had an old kitchenaid washer that was 20 years old before this one and now I cant afford to try to have this one fixed, although judging from what everyone has said, it would be fixable. I also can't afford to get a new one so I am stuck with this piece od junk!

I get furious all over again every time I use this washing machine;.  I bought this Maytag Centennial washer in January, 2012, and have hated it since the day we installed it.  I did not realize how invasive to my laundry chores it would be.   Putting this thing in my home took me back to the days of Hal the computer in  "2001 Space Odyssey".    This piece of junk takes over and I'm helpless to fight it. Once you push that Start/Pause, Unlock Button, you're sunk.  You can't modify the load in any way.  You can't do a soak and if you drop a sock on the floor, no matter what you do, you can't stop the  machine to add it..  If it should be gracious and stop, it will spin out and pump your soap and bleach down the drain before it restarts.   I don't need Maytag to adjust my water level and wash time for economy, I can do that myself.  The Maytag company should hang their head in shame for allowing such a substandard, practically useless product to leave their factory.  I am taking this washer to the landfill and  have bought my last Maytag product.
