collection agency
Complaint

Country: United States
TRS keeps sending me bills for $226.59 for a returned check made out to Sears Full Line. I did not write this check. I live in Oregon and the debt was incurred at a Washington mall. I have never even been to Washington. I have sent TRS 2 letters and they still send me bills.

They are associated with Telecheck, which acts as a credit reporting agency for bounced check collections. Apparently, they figure they are above the law.
You already know what happens when you ask nicely. They will ignore you and trash your credit.
Get an attorney and sue their [***], since otherwise they will interfere with your ability to open new bank accounts. Both FDCPA and FCRA allow courts to award damages and attorney fees, so you should be able to find attorneys to take such cases on contingency.
You can find a consumer attorney in your state through www.naca.net
You should receive a letter from TRS within 5 days notifying you of this alleged debt. They have also probably put derogatory information on your Telecheck file, which would interfere with opening a new checking account and also might interfere with you using one of your own checks at any of their retailer clients.
Send a written dispute to TRS disputing the alleged debt. In addition, obtain a copy of your Telecheck report, and dispute any errors you find. Send all disputes certified return receipt requested, since you are building a paper trail documenting noncompliance with FDCPA and FCRA, in case you have to sue.
If they continue to harass you over a debt you don't owe, or continue to damage your Telecheck credit file, get a consumer attorney, as they have a history of very poor compliance short of credibly threatening legal action.
Let an attorney straighten it out.
