I rented a car from carrentals.com. The quoted price from Thrifty was $114.00 including tax and surcharges. When I got to the counter I was told that the actual price was $206.00. I was absolutely stuck and when I told the manager at the Kansas City airport and showed my quote, I was told, in effect, too bad. This is the second time I've had a problem with Thrifty and also the second with carrentals.com. Thrifty overrents and I once had too wait two hours for a vehicle. DO NOT USE EITHER COMPANY EVER! Stick with hotwire.com or orbitz, neither of which I have ever had a problem.

Reserved a 7 seater van, was told when I arrived they did not have a 7 seater. They would substitute a 9 seater. I told them I did not want to bigger vehicle as it would use more fuel and space. They then said I had no choice as they did not have the car I reserved 3 months in advance. Then I was told since it was a 9 seater that I MUST buy the 30 Euro a day insurance, which I declined. then they demanded I leave a 2000 Euro deposit with my cc. I had no choice as I needed a car. I did not need a 9 seater with the extra costs. The van looked as if it had problems as the spare tire tools were loose in the trunk. When I returned the car they checked it like I\'ve never seen a company check. Underside, under hood, each tire, each window, details inside. Something they did not do when I picked up the car. Then the guy checking states the spare tire was stolen. It was obvious that the previous renter had taken the car out of Germany to France and by the tools they had tire problems and perhaps the spare was not put back. No one checked this when I picked up the car, who checks for the spare when you rent? On the contract it did not state it came with a spare. They then wanted to keep the 2000 Euros for the loss of a spare tire. I did not want a 9 seater from the start, thus I was forced to take a bigger, more expensive vehicle.

i made a reservation and then had to cancel it, only to find out that car rental.com had charged my credit card 12 dollars for collision insurance. when i tried to call and find out about my refund i found out that they dont have a phone number. you have to send an email to customer support, i still have not heard from them yet. nice little scam they have going. do yourself a big favor and never deal with these people.

Carrentals.com quoted me one rate and substantially charged a higher rate once I picked up the car.  Second, I received an email reading that my reservation had been canceled when, in fact, I picked up the car as scheduled.  Customer service has been of no service at all.  The company runs a "bait & switch" practice which is a bad way to do business. The company lures people with low quotes and then subsequently increases the rate exponentially!

A word of caution to everyone, who intends to rent Dollar/Thrifty cars in Germany. Dollar/Thrifty uses a licensee in Germany with very dubious, misleading, deceptive and fraudulent business practices. When you order the car on the Dollar or Thrifty website, you will receive the usual confirmation, which breaks down the rental cost in its subcomponents such as airport fees, VAT, road tax etc. Nothing was mentioned of a mandatory insurance premium of  €20 ($28) per day. For every car I ever rented anywhere in the world, the credit card always covered the insurance premium. The AMEX Gold card specifically mentioned this coverage. It was the counter agent at the airport, who insisted on another €400.- ($560.-) insurance premium. It is highly immoral to spring this surprise on customers who just arrived on a sleepless trans-Atlantic overnight flight. This made the car the most expensive car I ever rented.

In addition, the car had no air conditioning and when I started phoning the agency on the 0700 number supplied on the rental agreement, I was constantly put on hold and transferred to other agents and found out later, why. The 0700 is not toll free number, but costs appr €1.- ($1.35) per minute, an attractive side income for the agency. Should you be in the unfortunate position to have to call the agency for help, use their German direct dial number 0203-348-5422. It will still be a long-distance call, but infinitely cheaper than the 0700 number. I spent an additional $50 in calling the agency for help, which I never got. I drove around in an oven for 3 weeks with temperatures of over 30C (85F). It later turned out that the connecting hoses for the A/C on this brand-new car were missing.

Booked a car from Europe through carrentals at Dublin airport, l was taked into talked into their
expensive car insurance, otherwise they block @l,200 euros on your credit car, l regret it now
as l was given a car with lots of dents and scratches and to add insult insult to injury the receptionist said
ah sure as its all ready got scratches and scuffs you wont have to pay for them as you,ve now got full
insurance, this was before i,d even driven the car.  The moral of the story is if you take full insurance
you get a bashed up car, take no extra insurance and you will get a pristine one, so they can charge
you for every tiny scratch on return ( also l had a 2008 model)

Just arrived at Stansted airport to find that Car rentals had booked the car but Budget would not take the debit card as payment without charging an extra 250%!!!!!!  Two weeks ago went through Avis with the card, and have used vroom with the card this year without problems.
Dont use car rentals or Budget as neither helped at all while stuck with a 7 year old.  Ended up taking the bus to Victoria station and got in after midnight without a car!  Terrrible service.
The 7 year old has a try out for Arsenal under 8 team on Saturday and only got afew normal hours sleep.  Never use carrentals again or budget.

I´ve made a reservation throught carrental website to pick up the car at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris(France). When I arrived there, there was no supplier counter at the airport. Carrental charged me the entire amount on my credit card and said they advised me the supplier was an offsite supplier. There was nothing written in my reservation confirmation nor in the website!!! BE CAREFUL WITH CARRENTAL.COM AS THEY ARE NOT RELIABLE!

Today I left Toronto Pearson International Airport and went to CarTental at 7 Kelfield St , one office for Car Rental. The Manager told me that I need sign a blanket MasterCard Sheets. I felt uncomfortable with this situation because I never signed any kind of this blanket MasterCard sheet without any amount of money.
I declined it. The manager finally cancel my reservation for August 16 and 17. I hope that they will refund my CAN$300.00 deposit to me in the next days. If nit, I would fight to the court. at 20:25, Friday, August 16, 2013

I rented through CarRentals.com and found out the hard way that you an not cancel the reservation without paying the full amount.  I contacted Thrifty directly to cancel through them as the provider and they advised me that it could only be cancelled with CarRentals.com

I will NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH CarRentals.com

CarRentals quoted us a one day price of $30.14 plus "estimated" taxes of $10.71.  When we got to Advantage in Las Vegas, we were told the car cost $35.49, plus $12.41 in taxes.  They would not honor the price we had been quoted.  Fortunately, we only rented for one day, so we only lost $7.  Anyone renting for multiple days would lose a lot more. We won't use CarRentals again.

Another issue is that CarRentals put the wrong phone number on our reservation--it was an Advantage office at a different location.  There was some confusion before we figured out what had happened.

I used 'RentalCars.com' website for renting a car in UK.  The price came up for a car from a reputed rental company. I accepted and paid using the credit card. An email came through with confirmation of booking and a bill for about double the amount!!!
In my panic and anger on seeing this, I cancelled the car rental without realising that full charge applied for cancellation within 24 hours.
I was very lucky that I was using an iPad and had taken (as I usually do) a screenshot while payment was going through.
I then spent the next hour on the phone with the company and after much argument, emails and negotiations managed to get my money back.
Initially they refused any help, when I put up a fight they offered the same car without extra cost (but double the original cost) and then on my perseverance agreed a refund of what I paid. I demanded that the right thing to do is for the company to provide me with a car honoring the original quoted price and refund the extra they charged illegally. However the company refused to honor this, although they said several times "I fully understand where you are coming from".  Their argument was that the price was changed by the actual rental company (which can change any moment) but I could not make them understand that no one but themselves is responsible for transactions on their own website.

In the process I lost a lot of valuable time, money on phone calls, horrendous stress and possible exchange rate loss on credit card refund.  I detailed this to the company immediately, over a month later I am yet to receive even an apology. Oh, and, during my calls to them,  I was accused of using a previous day's quote (as the time on the screen shot was 2 hours behind UK time they thought I was trying to cheat until I explained my geographical location).  It took me some effort to explain to them that, even if i was working on the previous day's quote,  any decent website will not allow a credit card transaction on

I would warn anyone against using this web site and I will soon be taking the matter up with authorities.

I give www.carrentals.com an A for avoiding a LIVE conversation with a customer service person to discuss something wrong with their service and avoiding any negative feedback.  I made a reservation in early September, 2014 for a trip over the 2014 Thanksgiving holiday weekend.  Mysteriously, I received an email mid October saying my reservation was cancelled.  I did NOT cancel my reservation.  Fortunately, I called the car rental company directly and they put my reservation back with the quoted rate, $250 less than today's rate.  I searched and searched for a carrentals.com phone number to talk to a live person, but there isn't one.  I have used them for many years.  This is the first indecent of this in the many years, but clearly it would have cost me lots of money.  Watch your reservations closely... I will from now on.

I made a car reservation through Kayak.com and found the cheapest rate through carrentals.com. I got excited and decided to book it immediately. As soon as I went to put my information in, it wouldn't accept it because it would not take my debit card information, it had to be a credit card. So, after asking my father, he allowed me to use his credit card and I would just pay him back in cash. Worst idea, when dealing with carrentals.com Turns out, not only could I not use his credit card that the company swore I needed to make the reservation, when I got to Fox in Ft. Lauderdale fl, the customer service was poor, they told me to cancel the reservation made using the credit card before making another reservation using a debit card (with of course a higher rate), and they directed me to carrental.com which has no customer service number to save your life! Everytime I went to cancel my reservation, I was taken back to a page in which I had to put my email and confirmation number again and again. I finally decided to suck it up and email them so, we'll see how this goes. At any rate, take it from someone who rarely takes the time to leave any review, STAY AWAY FROM carrentals.com if you want to be happy!

Never use car rentals.com because they immediately take the money from your account as soon as you book and you never get anyone to even talk to if you cancel the reservation and need your money back. I booked an auto and cancelled due to a medical emergency within an hour of booking but they basically won't refund your money!!!! Syat away from carrentals.com!!!!! This just happened today 1/24/2016.

Rented what looked like a pretty good deal from CarRentals.com (an Expedia Company). When I went to get my car at the Atlanta airport, they were out of the car I rented and only had something for about 30% more. What is the use of shopping on their website? Never again!

I booked a car for pick up at LAX on the Carrentals.com website. I went through the reservation process and ended up booking a car for 10 pm pick up 3 days before my flight landed. On the day of the flight I get a call from the rental company stating I would not be able to pick up at that time as they close at 10 pm.

I wasn't going to make it by 9:45 so they instructed me to make a back-up reservation. I tried to work with carrentals.com but they would not help, they instructed me to go back through the web site and get a refund from separately from the rental company. After I asked to be reimbursed for the difference they refused to accept responsibility for allowing me to book at a time when the supplier would not be open and refused to help in any way with the process.

Can't be sure anything on the website is correct and the company does not seem to be properly organized. On top of that, they refused to take responsibility for their mistakes and had no intention of taking care of the customer in any situation where there is a problem. Will never use again, would definitely recommend you look elsewhere for a car rental.

This company arranged a rental through Hertz at a location which was closed at the time I was to pick up the car.  After returning to the airport to try and transfer the booking to the Hertz desk there, I was told Hertz would not honor the booking because it was arranged through CarRentals.com.  I had to pay for a new booking and CarRentals.com refused to refund my original charge.  This company clearly is more concerned with a few dollars than keeping customers happy and loyal.  I will never use CarRentals.com again and would advise anyone else considering this company to do the same.
