Real process servers don't call you, they just show up.
And they don't serve a "subpoena" if you were being sued, they serve a summons. You aren't being called as a witness, or asked to produce evidence.
This is a common fake "debt" extortion racket.
You are being fed a line of BS. Only question is how deep it goes.
They call claiming it is to arrange to "serve papers", saying or implying you have been sued.
The goal is to get you to call back in a panic, and "settle" this "lawsuit", that probably doesn't exist.
Who knows whether the "debt" exists, or they have any right to collect it? A number of these "process server/debt collectors" have been caught "faking". What do you think, if they are using this illegal tactic?
They usually call relatives, friends, or coworkers, since this is designed to create panic about this "lawsuit". They love to use skip trace services to fine people related to you, and phone databases to call them. They are basically bullies, and it makes them feel powerful.
If you have actually been sued, then you can check with your local courthouse, and they will have a record of it. Just give them a call, and they can see if any cases show up under your name. If there is actually a lawsuit, they are required to actually serve you a summons, which would identify the suing party and the court case, not just threaten you on the phone.
