Footrest

I have purchased a double em liner and chair. All three footrest you have to pull in on the bottom of of the rest with your heel just to get them to close. My wife is a little woman. She winds up laying flat of her back to get out of my chair. Can it be adjusted where you can just push in with your feet to get it to close like her lazy boy?
