Rental car cost scams

2 instances with Europcar. They take advantage of travelers being weary.
First time, I was conned into accepting an upgrade for "only a little more than the original cost" - turns out it was additional to the original cost so more than doubled the total. (It was in the small print so no recourse against Europcar.)
2) Charged GBP380 for a small scratch on the bottom of the front bumper - would treat with a little polish if it was my car. I'm not aware of any incident which would have caused the scratch which was lateral along the bumper so not the result of running into anything. Seems a strange place for vandalism so, my suspicion is it was done at the rental location but no proof. I don't believe they intend to repair the scratch, just charge for it.

Recommendation: Take lots of photo's when returning a car, before the agency gets to it.
