Ticketing Name Change penalties
Complaint
MR MJ Laskarides
Country: South Africa
My wife, Cherie, had booked a flight to Greece before we got married. With her surname change, she enquired at THY whether it would be acceptable if she retained the ticket in her maiden name and travelled with her marriage certificate, a practice acceptable to the CAA. most (if not all ) airlines . In addition, in South Africa, the new Consumer Protection Act protects the Consumer from such arrogant " take it or leave it " practices. One would understand if the name change was for a different person entirely , but for the same person ( with a married surname ) to demand a ticket replacement and cancel the original one is grossly unfair if not illegal
Contact with the Care Line ( which purports to have a Customer Line is impossibile- they are very good at dealing with mundane matters such as bookings , but when it comes to complaints they refer one to a website ,which takes one to " new Feedback" and the denies entry into the website due to its set up when it can't take uploaded files .Further to exacerbate the issue even more, the local THY operators expatriates from Turkey, are clueless when it comes to their legal obligations to operate in a country in compliance with that country's own laws.
Come on Turkish Airlines and be reasonable - it is NOT as if the identity of your passenger has changed . Refund the considerable cost incurred as a result of an honest enquiry on the part of the passenger!
