It's a phone shakedown racket, often run from India.

If you applied online for a payday loan, they may have gotten your information from either a sleazy "lead" site, or a fake site.

Their goal is to pretend you owe them some old payday loan you might have borrowed from some other company, even paid.  They will make threats, claim you owe them, claim they are connected to a bunch of "lenders", but can't tell you which was the lender, hoping you "guess" one and think that's who they are collecting for.

    It's a con.

They will typically keep calling, harassing, and threatening you as long as they think they have a chance at succeeding and getting your money.

Do whatever you have to do to send the opposite message, hang up, cut off contact, cuss them out, call them back repeatedly to harass them back, tell them the FBI is recording the call.  Whatever sends the message.
