disconnect problems

I am sending DirecTV a check in the amount of $216.32 in payment of (I hope) my final bill.  I explained to them that I was going in the hospital very shortly for surgery and do not know when I would be able to finally come hope.  After surgery I will be in a skilled nursing facility for a period of time and then to my daughter's until I am able to take care of myself.  I had hoped they would not charge a bundle to be able to stop my service with them.  But, that was too much to expect.  I received this bill with a note that they would take it out of my checking account or charge it to my credit card.  I guess they think I am lying about surgery, but I really having bilateral knee surgery next week.
