I just received 5 letters in one day from Lawyers in Columbus Ohio wanting to represent me in some suit filled by Asset Acceptance LLC. They are a debt collection agency. I had words on the phone with them earlier last week. They keep calling and when I answer they hang up. So, I called them and asked what do you want? A very inexperienced employee began telling me that I owed a credit card debt. Which was pd 6 yrs ago. But I intentionally did not tell the man that. As an employee of a collection bureau myself for 5 yrs, tho not a collector, I had to be certified in the Fairdebt collection act. I told him he was not a very good collector! ......I have not received anything filed from mt clerk of courts. I think I just pissed him off! .....I had NO idea until I Google's this Co. that they have suits against them. Lets get ANOTHER civil suit up against these [***].... can I really call the FBI about this company. I have no car and am on disability and am disabled. Maybe I should take that route? ???

You might check with your county courthouse.
If it was paid off years ago, it's not owed. If last payment was 6 years ago, it might be OOS, past the SOL period within which a creditor can sue, depending on your state law, but you must respond and raise this defense for the court to throw out the lawsuit. This might not even be about the old account you once had. It might be someone else's debt, but if you don't respond, they might still get a judgement against you.
Although you haven't received anything, in some cases these lowlife collectors serve by "sewer service", or just drop the summons on the doorstep of some old address you haven't lived at for years.
If you are being sued over an unowed debt, including a debt already paid years ago, get legal representation from an attorney versed in FDCPA litigation, as not only do you want to oppose their lawsuit, but you may be able to countersue for FDPCA violations like deceptive collection and recover damages and attorney fees.
